Does that mean Toyota becomes the first foreign car company to win a NASCAR championship?

I’m pretty sure TRD is, for the most part based in the US, but if you’re going by the Toyota name, probably.

Didn’t Chrysler win in 2012?

Actually, there’re several TRDs. TRD Europe which used to handle the WRC program in the 90s, then the Formula 1 cars, and now the TS030 program. TRD Japan probably handles the Super GT program and everything else over there. TRD USA likely specializes in circle-track racing, NHRA drag racing, and off-road trucks/suvs.

:O

This is a valid point with the whole FCA deal! I guess I should update the category to “first non-USA originated company”.

Really? I thought the current TS040 (no more Ts030’s) and SuperGT programs were run by TMG and Toyota Gazoo Racing?

Anyways, my point is that currently TRD seems to have more of a presence here in the US, as opposed to the newer TMG and Gazoo divisions that are outside of the US.

Probably won from the aerodynamic advantage of being grounded to the ground.

Its a technicality anyway. It was still Chrysler Group the time and they were still a separate company, just majority owned by Fiat. The full takeover didn’t happen until 2014.

Even then, you could still say FCA US is an American company, just one that’s wholly owned by an Anglo-Dutch company.

All I know is Toyotas Nascar participation has really helped Tunda sales around here. Even though that makes no sense. Go back 5 years and you wouldn’t see any guys wearing Toyota baseball caps, or Toyota racing jackets. Now I see them daily.
