What you see above is a rental car agency in Japan, but it’s a bit different than what most people outside of the country are used to.
You see what the sign says? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . That’s right.
In Japan, along side the regular rental car companies, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda own their own chains of rental car agencies that rent out products of their own brand only.
Here’s an example of a Nippon Rent-A-Car, located just down the street, both located oustide of Niigata Airport.
There’s also

Here’s a serious case of Déjà vu. It’s that same

from my

of what I’ve found on Street View. I guess this is where the car’s owner lives.
Who would have thought I’d see it in two different spots?
And that pretty much sums up what I found as I found myself heading out of Central Niigata, which means there’s a chance that I’ll have a ways to go before I get to another city (take in consideration that traveling from place to place on Street View is much slower than in a car).
But, even so, there’s the chance I can find something interesting in a town between there and the next city.

Looks like they have small cars if you just need to get around, and big vans for if you need to carry a lot of stuff or people. Very practical; I like it.

Head down to Yamanashi/Izu, lots of classics parked and driving out from Tokyo/Yokohama out there.

I’ll certainly have to check that out.

Yeah, even with the small size of the lot, these rental agencies seem to have a better variety of cars available compared to ones here in the US.

Fuji speedway is that way, if there is a meeting going on there will be lots. Izu is a nice seaside getaway area and on the way out to the point there are all kinds of parked classics that people have or need to work on. A parking lot on Lake Yamanaka is where they love to get Fujisan in a shot with their cars too. Etc....

Yep - went there two years ago and rented a Ractis from Toyota. Impeccable and efficient service, the only annoying thing was finding the parking lot itself. 10/10 would recommend.

How was the Ractis itself? I’m curious, because I like the way the Ractis looks and wish they would import them here, even if it was as a Scion.

Very average. Nothing amazing, but nothing awful. It may have had a CVT gearbox, but since we drove it at a leisurely pace there was nothing really to fault, except that it’s too easy to slide the shifter over to B from D which keeps the revs high. It’s tall so the cabin feels airy and light with big windows. Dashboard was a little plasticky, but hey, it’s an affordable Toyota so it is what it is.
