I was really surprised, it’s not a bad driving car at all!
More than enough power, shifter and clutch felt great, handled better than I expected. The handling wasn’t quite as taught as I’d like though, and the interior was awkward: the pedal box is long, so in order to get the clutch how I’d like I had to sit really close to the wheel and the shifter ended up in an awkward location where I was kind of reaching back for it.
Overall it stays on my list, though I would need to find one much cheaper than this in order to get over the awkward seating position and low feature interior.
I also drove a BRZ...eh. It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t blown away. The BRZ and Gen Coupe were priced about the same and I know I would rather buy the Gen Coupe at that price. If the BRZ and Gen Coupe were both $15k I might go BRZ. The BRZ’s steering feels great, but I didn’t really like the clutch, the ride was super stiff, and the seats were a bit too narrow.
Right now the NC Miata is still at the top of my list, but the Genesis Coupe is certainly in the running as an alternate. FRS would be second to the Miata if I could find one for cheap enough.
Any recommendations? I'm hoping to keep it under $15k, less than 60k miles, less than 10 years old, relatively nice as it'll be my daily. Must be RWD, manual or good paddles, reasonable for some snow

Are M Cars a no go?

You tried a Honda S2000 yet? Might be difficult to find one in your price range, but it’s worth the look.

The Genesis does look great. The guy I know with one has had several issues though.

I’ve driven them, not interested. Overpriced and no low end torque

German maintenance cost + high cost of entry unless old knocks them off. Plus I generally am not a BMW fan. I'd like to test drive some

If you look hard enough you may find an 04 fitting that criteria.

I mean if you are really considering a Miata, you might as well look at NA/NB as well. With your less than ten years old, you could still find an ‘05 NB which is the last of the series. That means any problems are ironed out by that point in the production. I really like the mazdaspeed versions of the’ 04/'05 but you could buy a regular one and make it better for less money. Anyways, definitely check one out because you can find a MINT one for just under $10k, like showroom quality.

Smell the roses and get a C5 is only breaks like one of your rules

What was the Genesis? Base, R-Spec, or Track? I recommend the R-Spec (what I have), and the ‘13+ have 50 more hp and a slightly nicer interior with better seats and a new shifter, among other changes. Don’t know if the ‘13s are down to $15k yet though.

Not all things must be RWD. Mazda Speed 3 for instance. Also try the 350z/370z. I wanted to like the 350z more than I did after I had some time behind the wheel. It just felt a bit heavy and slow to me. RX8 in good condition should be on the list but also has the zero torque issue...

I test drove a 2.0T R-Spec Gen Coupe a couple years ago and it was pretty nice, not sure what pricing is on those now, I imagine the 3.8 would be better anyway.
Not thinking of any RWD coupes you’ve missed as it seems like the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro would be in the GTO too big category(I liked my GTO from a driving standpoint but from a reliability/parts/service standpoint I would recommend against anyway).

Corvettes are horrible in winter, so no.
I'll get a Corvette someday

I don’t want another FWD hatchback right now. If I did I’d just keep the one I already have.
I don’t like 350z’s but I do want to drive a 370

Miata’s feel torquier than S2k’s from what I recall. They're also cheaper

I'd consider NA/NB but they're a bit old for me to use as a daily. I'd pick one up as a second car, but I don't really want a second car

Pony cars are in the too big category, and also not great in the price range Im looking for

Id definitely go 3.8 for the BK1. Glad you liked it. I like how long everything is only because I’m 6’3 lol.

I know some people that DD C5’s, they are great in snow since they have a 50/50 balance. With good snow tires, and a light foot they will do just fine. My mom just put snow tires on her 2005 CTS-V last year said it was great in snow.

Well it's all about milage really. The NB is definitely a lot more modern compared to the NA also. I just look at it if you are looking at an NC, they could be only one year newer anyways.

Was it a 2.0T or 3.8 V6? Oh wait I just saw the 3.8 badge on the pic.

have you tried E46 M3’s? I know they’re hard to find with your requirements (read: impossible for the 10YO thing) but try one. you won’t be disappointed

They are really not that bad. They’re no small block v8, but if taken care of can run for a long time with little to no issues

I picked up a 2013 v6 coupe last month. In absolute love with it. Black outside with the brown leather inside. It’s the 8 spd auto, but for long drives it cruses nicely, then if i want to hammer it some, the paddles are plenty responsive.
