Suggestions for Internet provider?

My provider for the last 5 years, Clearwire, was bought out by Sprint. Last week, all Clear WiFi boxes and towers were shut down by sprint. Sprint has offered no introductory plans themselves and the Clear WiFi box is not usuable for any other provider including sprint. So fuck sprint, and I need new internet.

We don’t have cable television or a lan line and we already have home security. I just need wifi internet, and no doubt unlimited data (which we had with Clear, dammit) as my wife watches netflix and cat videos nonstop.

What do you guys recommend? I’ve been shopping around for anything, but I don’t want data restrictions and we are not bundling which limits our options. A few deals I have found have been a screw job (only blah blah a month but the modem is a 200 rental!) or just a ridiculously high number. Also, fuck sprint.

I recommend stealing it from a neighbor, if possible.

I do not recommend what we have - Time Warner Cable. It’s the only thing available in the building. The internet gets slow sometimes - whether it’s from heavy use or throttling by the provider I don’t know. Still, when the bill crept over $200 a month, I called the company and they rejiggered the package down to $159 a month for the same channels I have now.

I don’t know what I could get that’s better — we live right by the old wifi tower and I never once lost internet and it was slow sometimes, but rarely. I don’t like cable or DSL based on my previous experiences with them but I don’t want to break the bank for “decent” service.

What options do you have in your area?

AT&T Uverse does not currently have data limits, at least in my area. But they generally do not have the fastest speeds.

Comcast is evil and should die, and they charge too much for data, and they fuck over their customers, and they should die. Have I mentioned Comcast should cease to exist in it’s current form.

Is T-Mobile viable in your area? They have their zero-data music streaming and video streaming plans. Yes, it’s over mobile, but it might work.

Sprint wifi hotspots, Verizon hotspots, and comcast whice I don’t really want because we don’t need television.

AT&T Uverese is not necessarily TV. You can get just internet, you only need ask forcefully enough for it.

So, the only way to have a wire to your house is with Comcast? They are offering, for only an extra $30-35, unlimited data on their internet-only plans.

I would also make the time to write to the FCC about your situation.

Also, FUCK COMCAST!

Buddy has Century Link and he can’t stop complaining how bad it is. Is that Wave Broadband out where you live? Had friends who had it in Seattle and it was serviceable and not Comcast. Though at least Comcast only sucks half as hard here as it does on the east coast.

“Fuck Sprint” is something I said many times in my years as a Sprint cellular customer.

Was with sprint for nearly a decade. Empty promises and shit service!

Starred and a second fuck Comcast. It’s my only option and it’s awful. They shut off my internet once because it was feeding back (or ?), then tried to charge me $50 to turn it back on when they turned it off. I called to get the $50 refunded and they charged me $6 just for calling and speaking with an actual person. Fuck Comcast.

Write to the FCC. Nothing will change unless actual subscribers start raising hell about how utterly terrible their Corporate Internet Overlords are.

I’ve had AT&T U-Verse for almost a decade and been really happy with it, though here in Saint Louis they haven’t yet enabled their gigabit internet service, which is supposed to come next year.

If it’s in your area, don’t get Charter. They’re pure day-nasty evil. I’ve never heard a good thing about Comcast, and when I’ve been in areas with Time Warner it has been frustrating to use, and the cable had an awful user interface.

Just my $0.02.
