No, I’m not swapping the drivetrain from an Audi into it. But I did find out the problem and its not as major as I thought it would be.

Kinja'd!!!

So after my friend with the compression tester flaked on me (not really he was just super busy and didn’t have the time to deliver it to me) I decided to pull the valve cover and take a look underneath. After I pulled the cover I checked the rockers and pushrods and there’s no slop at all in any of them. (its also very interesting to me because this is the first engine I’ve taken apart that’s been a OHV all the cars I’ve ever worked on on have been DOHC) At first I didn’t think anything of all the valves being closed, I just thought it was on a compression stroke. In fact the first words I said after I pulled the cover was “Oh hey it’s on a compression stroke.” (I’m also pretty sure that was the only time I didn’t swear) But then I cranked the truck over a few times to make sure everything opened and closed right and that’s when I noticed that none of the valves were opening. So I’m assuimg that the timing chain broke or the camshaft is now 100% round, which I’m sure is a 100% impossible, but hey it would be the most interesting thing to happen to a 4cyl S10.

So I guess Next part will be me installing a new High-lift cam so I can be Blub Blub Bubbing all the way down the road.

(not really but I can dream right?)

Hopefully its not an interference engine.

Interesting, and good find. You may be able to remove the cam position sensor if it has one and watch the cam rotate, or not rotate as it were.

You should.
