I’m curious as to why, I haven't had any really bad experience with it: I know the trolls are out there but I think you can advoid them on Twitter if your careful

I have a twitter because the local police tweets out whatever their weekly targeted enforcement is and my phone tells me (seatbelts, speeding, redlights, dui checkpoints, tint etc). Good for situational awareness. I haven’t actually used it for anything else in more than 3 years.

Twitter is a necessity if you 1) want to participate in Jalopnik or 2) have something you are promoting like books or a podcast.

The whole concept/mentality of “Blurb 140 characters or less to everyone who can listen” just strikes me as what’s wrong, socially, with most people these days - the only exception is that it makes sense if you’re a business or celebrity doing PR (in either case).

In short, I don’t care what everyone I know is doing at every waking moment, and I know that nobody [should] care what I’m doing every waking moment of every day, always.

I have an account but rarely look at it. I think I signed up just to get some freebies. I don’t anyone following me because they’re just going to get spam. 140 characters or not, I really don’t have that much wisdom to share with the world. I am following a few people but rarely look at what they have to say except in the email summaries that Twitter sends out.

A good portion of my family only seems to communicate via Facebook and so I have an account. Not that I use it on any regular basis. FB just strikes me as incredibly creepy, gathering bits of information for who knows what purposes. At this point I’d say I probably trust comgress more than I trust Facebook.

I avoided Twitter like the plague for a long time. I didn’t need yet another social networking distraction in my life. I got an account, linked it to the motorcycle road tripping blog I’ve had for years, and used it mainly to tweet links to my posts and nothing more.

When I started writing car stuff, I rejiggered my Twitter account and started using it to publicize my work. Many of my pieces that have been reposted to the FP or official sub-blogs happened because I tweeted the links to the right people. When I joined the Right Foot Down crew, Josh and Will encouraged me to include a link to my Twitter in each of my articles and to continue using it as a tool like I had been.

Today, I find Twitter more useful for literal social networking than Facebook or other platforms. I’ve connected with people who helped me get more published. I’ve become friends with random followers who just chatted me up. I’ve even been contacted with a sweet press opportunity or two by Twitter, since that’s the easiest way for the public to contact me. Email is so 20th century, it seems.

@justinhughes54 if anyone cares. (I ran car #54 in autocross for many years.)

I’ve had twitter since it came out. I still cant figure that shit out. I use IG, it’s simpler for me to just show you than it is to math my words into some short version of what I want to say

Hmm I get this, I guess what curious about is this, if you’ll indulge me ( not trying to convince you to use Twitter I completely understand).

As the current “social media” I hate that phrase, it should be called something else I like the updated from people, and businesses and groups I follow, I do dislike the small character limit, but it does force them/yourself to write more inventively, so I kinda like that I guess.

I started using it cause the OG topgear Crew drove with in 5 miles of where I was living at the time (Capitol Race way, where they attempted to drag race the 458 vs the Amg SLS) and if I would have had Twitter I could have gone and maybe seen them. So I got on once I learned it’s kind of a way to know of cool things happening.

and as Steve pointed out below, it is kinda necessary evil in today’s world of promoting your goods, so have to promote the podcast some way besides Oppo lol

Is it hard as a lawyer to get it all in with only 140 characters? I mean I’ve known some lawyers and they all write like pages and pages of stuff, I mean some of the stuff they send to each other, it’s like phone books! It’s crazy!

(Bad joke attempt)

I use twitter mostly to lurk and keep up with news by following journalists, race teams, and other people that interest me.

I’m pretty much always on Twitter, but being a teenager I tweet a bunch of school-specific crap because it’s a conveneant way to talk to my peers. You can feel free to follow but I won’t blame you for unfollowing/muting for the lack of info pertaining to cars.

Instagram is where I am more selective about the things I post and a majority of these things are car/guitar related. If I were a car enthusiast from Montana, I wouldn’t follow myself on Twitter, but I’d consider following myself on Instagram.

Either way,

Twitter: keyserguitar

IG: KeyserGuitars

I use twitter. Its main purpose is to follow NASCAR and some other forms of motorsports. I follow mostly drivers, teams and media personalities. I do have a few friends I follow and vice versa and we mostly tweet about football and stuff.

I have an on-again/off-again relationship with Twitter. I find it difficult to curate good content, when I do I fall behind anyway because it’s just a fire hose. Plus, I’ll find some folks who are funny, follow them, but they all they do is retweet people who THEY think are funny, but I usually don’t.

I don’t use it. I mean I already have Skype, Facebook (the new myspace), hotmail, vine, excite, etc. I mean just pick one because I’d be tired of chasing posts down on twitter. (I can’t even imagine)
