Oh man, coming up on ten years since I got my license, this will be a nice quick trip back. My first car was sort of a toss up between the 92ish F150 that was our farm truck and the 2000 dodge grand caravan that was my mom’s aging people hauler. The truck is what I mostly drove at first until it got to be too expensive to maintain and we sold it. I can’t remember what was wrong with it but that was quite a fun truck. Looked like this one, but I can’t find a picture of our old one.
Around that time, my mom got a CRV to replace her Dodge caravan which was subsequently passed down to me. Free car? I’ll take it! That car took an absolute beating, often taken on to logging trails and corn fields to see if it was as “trail rated” as my buddies jeep. It mostly was, you just had to gun it a lot. Loved this van mostly for the amount of people/shit I could shove in to it. As far as driving dynamics and anything else it was awful. At some point the entire front end went to shit (cooling, steering, the engine, yeah all of it). We sold it to one of my dad’s co-workers so he could enter it in a demo derby. It won. I somehow wasn’t surprised, possibly because I may have put it through similar conditions at times. Once again, I can’t find any pictures but it was a green dodge grand caravan so it looked like this, just with the entire rear hatch covered in skateboard/snowboard stickers.
Sometime around the Grand Caravan shit the bed, just before senior year in HS, I became interested in cars so I went on the search of finding a fun car that I really wanted instead of a hand me down (even though I wouldn’t turn one down). Since I am/was constantly going out in wintry weather I decided I had to have a Subaru. Of Course I wanted a turbo but I’m quite glad I didn’t because I would have probably 1. crashed that car a lot sooner 2. blown up the engine from being a teenage idiot 3. payed out the ass for insurance. The auto auction down the road from me ended up finding a beautiful 1999 Legacy 2.5gt wagon with leather seats and a 5speed. I was in love.
This car I actually have some pics of! First picture is actually the newer of the three and is at my parents house before my first trip heading westward
Next picture is of my ass cooking some hot dogs in a parking lot, nothing too unusual. Car was in it’s typical winter set-up with the box on top and damn near all of my winter things shoved in the back of the car. I had a tendency to live out of my car on weekends so it needed to be well stocked in supplies a 17/18 year old would need.
And lastly is a picture of it covered in mud. Because Subaru.
The Legacy wagon lasted me all through college and not quite a year out before I slid a dirt corner a bit too quick and the back end ripped around and smacked a tree. Bought my current WRX after that.

Interesting...I’m also kind of glad also that I have a 2.4 wagon and not a 2.5 T5 turbo because of the reasons listed above...
