$20/mo for the basic crash notification plan? $20 per month? What do you think we are made of money? Even at $199 per year ($16.67/mo) that’s still way too much. Are people actually paying this? How about a “Crash notification only” plan for $5 per month? I don’t want your advisors, I don’t need roadside assistance, I don’t need any of the other crap. But crash notification is a nice safety feature I would be willing to pay a little bit for.

Yeah their pricing plans are really bad (and confusing! Don’t even look at the phone minutes plans). I have free OnStar with my car until February, and I’ve heard if you tell them its too high they’ll give you a break. We’ll see though.

We’ll see. My 3 years free is up in December. no way I’m paying $20/mo. I can get XM down to $5/mo but it’s always weird terms like 5 or 8 months at a time.

Yeah, I have SiriusXM Free Trial too that is up at the beginning of next month and I’ve already got a flyer and multiple emails about it expiring and offering 30 dollars for 5 months, lol. They must no there is no way in hell I’ll be paying 20 dollars a month to listen to radio.

I hope at some point a manufacture begins to offer crash detection free for a reasonable amount of time. I understand the loss of revenue this would cause but the advantages it gains in marketing for your vehicles safety would offset it IMO.

Is onstar not free for 2 years when you buy a new car? I thought it was free for some time, then a monthly fee kicked in

I just checked their website

All 2014 and newer GM vehicles come with limited OnStar services standard for 5 years

You’ll have access to limited OnStar services, including select features of the OnStar RemoteLink ® mobile app 2 that lets you remotely start your car (if factory installed), send a destination to your in-vehicle navigation screen, and lock or unlock your doors — all from your smartphone. You’ll also receive Advanced Diagnostics to help monitor your vehicle’s health and simplify maintenance scheduling. And, if your vehicle is equipped with OnStar 4G LTE 3 and a Wi-Fi hotspot 4 , you’ll have access to a built-in, reliable Internet connection so you can stay connected on up to seven mobile devices.

For full access to our emergency, Advisor-based and other OnStar services, you can upgrade to a paid service plan. To learn more about your Basic Plan, please speak with an OnStar Advisor, or log into onstar.com.

It sounds like the safety/crash features are only available in a paid program. Does it sound that way to you?
