I... I... like it? This is the first one I’ve seen in person. Great colors on this one too. The interior is beautiful, with many glorious buttons as in the Panamera, and the seats are fantastic . I’ve never really cared for Cayennes & their platform-mates, though they’re nice enough. This has a “just right” kind of feel, like the Audi Q5. It’s got a lovely bark from the exhaust, as well. If this keeps Porsche solvent, I’m ok with it.
Very clever/possibly stupid intake routing through the hood:

Porsche’s gone green, don’t you know.

A friend of mine just got a black one a few weeks ago. I wanted to give him the business about it, but he let me drive it and it was a blast!

The Macan Turbo is great because its an AWD twin turbo hot hatch that isn’t TOO swollen and fat. What it isn’t is an SUV or even a crossover.

That’s what makes it just right. I hate the compromise of crossovers, and this just appeals as a fast, tall, 5 door hatch.

Always nice to be pleasantly surprised.

A buddy here at work has a Macan S, we went for a ride and it fucking hauls ass. All Macans are turbocharged.

I say the same about the Infiniti E (or whatever it’s called now). It’s a lot more homely than the Macan, but RWD and a solid VQ37 engine...

yeah, its like the Gwhatever wagon we should get but don’t

Ever since these things went on sale I couldn’t throw a football any direction without hitting one. Drove an S, twas very nice.

What kind of person buys these? Its crazy!

I’m with you. Never liked the Cayennes, really, but I could see myself driving a Macan if I somehow managed to come into possession of one. It’s a much more sensible size for something with a Porsche badge on it, even if it is a bit too tall.

It’s a bit bigger than the X1, and the GLA..
It’s a bit too lifted to be a true hatch

eh, an outback sport is still just an impreza wagon with a few mils of extra spring. Drop 25 mm on the springs and your are about there.

My step dad has an Outback Sport... it’s just an Impreza with a two-tone paint job. Significantly less ground clearance than an X1 or a GLA.

no I know. My point is that if you remove the “outbackness” of the Macan, its basically just a Golf RRRRRRR+ sport turbo
![]() 11/18/2015 at 17:25 |

Hmm. I honestly don’t really see what you mean about the Outback Sport. I do definitely see what you mean about the Macan though. I think it’s still a little too large to be considered a hatch back, but its pretty close. They do look pretty badass lowered.

When you see one in person you realize they aren’t nearly as large as they look, they are quite small.

There are at least 6 on my campus. I see them every day.

This is the best SUV because it’s actually a hatchback

I really dislike the Cayenne, but the Macan is very appealing... I could see having one someday as a daily driver (if I need an automatic for some reason), or getting one for Mrs. addiction once the kids are driving themselves. I just with they’d build the Panamera wagon concept they showed off a while back...
![]() 11/19/2015 at 11:21 |

It’s... definitely a small crossover.

Tall hatches/wagons are crossovers.

The base and S models are actually pretty affordable for a Porsche...

In the same way a suburban is a wagon, I.e. “technically”
![]() 11/19/2015 at 12:06 |

If it’s not a crossover, then there’s about eleventy dozen other cars on the market that we should just be calling tall hatchbacks/wagons, then.

I really like Panameras, and that wagon... mmm. I could see driving that once it’s depreciated to a realistic level. The Macan just doesn’t feel “crossovery”, more like a tall, fast hatchback.
![]() 11/19/2015 at 12:25 |

I’m pretty sure the definition of a crossover is a tall hatchback/wagon.

Wikipedia:
...is a vehicle built on a car platform and combining, in highly variable degrees, features of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with features from a passenger vehicle, especially those of a station wagon or hatchback .
![]() 11/19/2015 at 12:33 |

Yeah, yeah... I’m just saying, it doesn’t feel like the monstrous compromise that every other crossover I’ve ever driven does. It’s a nice car, not a bad truck.
![]() 11/19/2015 at 12:35 |

This is what surprised me most. I expected a vehicle of nearly Mk1 Cayenne size.

Yes, there are! But people are so afraid of that nomenclature here. It’s too bad.

![]() 11/19/2015 at 13:06 |

I guess, depends on how broad you want to go...we could just call then all cars...even trucks

It’s like jeep renegade size...only shorter
![]() 11/19/2015 at 13:35 |

I honestly don’t like the word crossover, but it seems to have become accepted by the industry. I’d be happy to call them hatchbacks or wagons, but when people hear “hatchback”, they think of a Mazda 3 or something, and when people hear “wagon”, they think of an old school Volvo or a Vista Cruiser.

yeah but jumping to the turbo is insane it starts at like 76k. I dont get why someone would buy one of these at that price unless someone already has a 911 and needs to carry slightly more people and groceries.
