It’ll be done eventually and we’ll have the looks of a ND Miata with the go of an Abarth 500.

And the exhaust.

This is the key component, no sense is using that engine if I don't get that sweet 500 Abarth noise with it.

I’m confused. The Fiat 124 is an ND Miata with an Abarth engine. Like, literally this is exactly what it is. Are you saying engine swap because you don’t like the looks, or did I miss something?

The Fiat 124 is 200 pounds heavier and I’m not fond of the larger overhangs.

Hell yes.

The biggest part of that weight difference is likely the engine, with somewhere between 100-150 pounds coming from turbo and intercooling hardware. The fact that the weight gap narrows in the automatic says a beefier manual transmission is also at least partially to blame...I doubt the bodywork would save you all that much.
