I was looking for something else when I ran across this today, from a 1968 issue of Life Magazine. I remember reading that Ford brought in some Cortinas, but I never saw one in real life, and was surprised to find an ad for one.
Oh, 30mpg in 1968. I looked just now and the Scion iA seems to be the highest combined fuel economy non-hybrid vehicle in the US at 37mpg. Yeah, Apples and Oranges and marketing talk, but have we really come that far?

I was on holiday in California some years ago and I was considerably surprised to find a Mk2 Cortina and even more so to learn that the owner had had several of them.

I believe they were sold in Canada up until the mid-70s, when the Mk4 was introduced. Never seen one though.

The pre-frumpy Cortina was also sold in small numbers in the US.
Interestingly, with a unique red upper light segment because haha amber is for weirdos

One was almost my first car. Mind you, it was in boxes, but it was a real Lotus Cortina sans the Lotus bits, for $600. Oh, to have a time machine. I got a $600 BMW 2002 instead, so at least I ended up with round taillights.

Good reasons.
