It was supposed to be a Grassroots Motorsport car, AWD and 400 HP, for under $2,012; the article states Lemons (sic) but I thought that LeMons had a $500 cap. Their website is dead, so no further info (I could search more but I don’t want to).

LeMons has a $500 cap in that, theoretically, the judges could approach you and offer $500 to purchase the vehicle and you won’t shit a brick. Judges also take bribes (booze, gifts, car parts, labor, etc.) to allow more expensive vehicles into the races.

I believe there may be a wide variance between what you willingly paid for that, um, blue shoebox... and what a LeMons judge is willing to believe it should be worth to an impartial viewer. I think you are good to go with that $500 fair value cap, unless there's a mustang II suspension and a V8 under that body kit...
