Guess which one: is it my 335i with it’s twin turbos, my 4matic C300, or my aging 2007 328i? This is the first time something has broken so I’m not too bummed, I’ve narrowed it down to valve cover gasket or oil pan gasket. Very slow leak, think I’m gonna have a shop take care of it unless anyone wants to let me borrow their garage.

The Audi A4 that you will buy next.

You know the B8 A4 avant is one of my favorite cars, if it could be had with a manual I would have eaten ramen every day and bought one new when they were making them. If I could ever find a cheap B8.5 avant with s-line (dat alcantara interior is sweet) I'd totally price out a manual swap (and probably not do it.)

If only.....
I’d totally drive a B8 A4 Avant, automatic or manual.

I’ve heard really good things about the S5, which means the S4 must be good too. A B8 S4 avant would be sweet.. I’d totally get an auto for that.

In chasing leaks, starts from the highest point and usually after a good cleaning of the engine (to get a fresh sample)

Valve Cover Gasket?
I’m going to have to say 328i, unless the C300 is high in mileage.

The S4 is great. The S5 is also great.

Thanks for the advice, I cleaned the engine bay very thoroughly once I discovered the leak (last night). It's a slow leak so I'm hoping I can wait til Wednesday to really take care of it.

Can confirm. The S4 is a great car, good luck finding an avant though.

Ding ding ding. The 328i has been a fantastic car, this is the only problem I've had and I'm at about 83k right now. The C300 has been trouble free and I'm getting close to hitting 73k on it.

They didn’t sell the B8 S4 avant in North America did they?

Nope.

Will do, it’s been getting pretty chill up here in VA for fall, and it gets dark at like 5 so I’m hoping I can take care of it quick if I leave work early. Fortunately I can just drive something else until I can take care of it.
Any update on the Audi? Still looking for another ride? My aunt in Austin is thinking about getting rid of her old GS430, my cousin went off to college and no one drives it now. 203k on it, full records!

Those allroads are SWEET. I saw one sitting on those S-line 5 spoke wheels and it looked so damn good. 10/10 would daily drive. Interior is fantastic too.

328i. Educated guess here, cause the 2.8’s and 3.0’s in the X3 had oil leaks similar to that. Just a hunch

Good call sir, 328i it is.

Ultimate bullet proof Japanese V8! Awesome! I still haven’t gone around giving the wagon a good look.
As an owner of 8 German cars (which honestly means nothing since no car is difficult to work on) as the temperatures syart to drop, those sensitive gaskets and seals (typical euro rubber) start to fail. Especially if the car is not warmed up properly before oil pressure bursts. Leaky times await.

Make sure to get the seals that go on the bolts that hold it down. Get the torque procedure right. Make sure the head gasket kit comes with spark plug coil seals

Clearly it’s an issue with the fahrvergnügenbereitschaftmotor on the BMW...
