“Rome wasn’t built in a day” Ontario wasn’t crossed in a day! I had already driven for about 3 hours (In Ontario) when I took this photo. I drove to Blind River, but have many hours to go apparently.

Best of luck! Where are you holding up for the night?

Blind River.

That’s pretty good, but holy shit do you have a long way to go.

Well this pic was somewhat past Deep River this morning but yeah ridiculous. It’s probably like 1300 kms now.

Man, fuck Deep River. And Barry’s Bay. For work reasons.

Driftwood park is really nice actually hahaha.

Dang. Too bad I didn't know you were headed that direction. I totally could have got you to pass on a message to someone for me in Sault Ste. Marie. Lots of pretty lakes and rivers near the Eliot Lake turnoff.

I was going to make it to the Sault tonight but since I had no place to stay there, I just decided to quit a bit shy. I should pass through Sault by 10am tomorrow at the latest.

I’ve driven one-way across Canada 3 times now (1x Montreal-Edmonton once, 2x Edmonton-Montreal) and I agree: Ontario is LONG.
Typical itinerary:
Day 1: Edmonton-Winnipeg. Easy!
We’ll be there in record time.
Day 2: Winnipeg-nowhere (maybe 1-1.5 hours out of TB) - Jeezus Fucking Christmas, I’ve gotten nowhere today.
What’s up with that 90 km/h speed limit?
Day 3: nowhere-Sudbury. And then that’s not far from North Bay, and once you get
there
it’s not far until Ottawa, and then once you get
there
it’s not far from Montreal, and then once you finally get to Montreal you wonder how in the fuck you actually drove for that many hours without realizing you’re a complete idiot...
Have a safe trip. I hope you have time to enjoy it properly.

Thanks. I will be going much slower than you. I am only planning on getting to Thunder Bay tomorrow.

The drive up the north shore is long. Despite the logging and the trucks, there are some seriously beautiful views on the way.
You’ll drive some good roads tomorrow. The views north of Soo are pretty, especially in the Lake Superior Provincial Park. And the road from Marathon to Nipigon is twisty and goes through a lot of elevation changes. Have fun, be safe.

Also thunder bay-Montreal is like 20 hours...you drove that in one day? Man....that is not on the list of good ideas haha.

Rats. I know the lady there who owns the Hard Wok Cafe. She’s hilarious. I’m not sure they would be open by then.

Far out, at its widest point, my entire country can be crossed in half a day, if done east to west. North to south it will probably end up at about 18-20 hours, plus the necessary 4 hour boat ride.

We were two, and we actually started somewhere east of Nipigon, but yeah, it was a LONG day. I still remember the beer my father-in-law offered me at 2am when we finally rolled it. It was much deserved.

On the other hand, the drive from Winnipeg to the Ontario border feels like a trip across Ontario, but with less to look at. I love Hwy17 :)

On the plus side, it's insanely beautiful up there.

What I remember about Winnipeg -> TB:
It’s flat
It’s still flat but there are some trees
More trees
Welcome to Ontario where civil engineers can’t handle straight lines or high speeds
(looks at map) Seriously, that’s as far as we’ve gotten?
Nope, still not getting anywhere
Oh, look! TB. Let’s just keep driving.

I find the scenery starts picking up around the Whiteshell Park area. By the time you get to Kenora it’s fine. That first (or last, for me)stretch feels about 5x longer than it is.
Straight lines are not a possibility due to the terrain. High speeds? I agree. Please help us turf some polititians, we obviously can’t do it on our own.
(looks at map) Seriously, that’s as far as we’ve gotten? YESSSSSSSSSSS!! Many more miles of awesome!!
Oh shit, Greater Sudbury Area. Well, all downhill from here (except for the small part of Muskoka you see from the highway).
Oh look, Toronto! Lets turn around and go back.

what country is that? Canada is quite large. I have made it about 100 kms out of ontario though.

The scenery is somewhat dimished when it’s night and raining and you can barely see the road. The part from Sault to Thunder Bay is rough....there’s almost no towns. You drive for like 8 hours and go through in order wawa (2 hours), marathon (another hour) and Nipigon (3 more hours) lol.

New Zealand. Best driving roads in the world, all squeezed within a landmass significantly smaller than California. (almost half.)

Fair enough. Especially this time of year. Don't forget White River, though—home of Winnie the Pooh, a big thermometer, an A&W, two gas stations and nothing else :)

Man. I wished I had stopped at the giant thermometer.

Nice. Although I didn’t really like any of the new flags. I think I prefer the old one. Canada doesn’t really have too many great driving roads except along the coasts. Well east coast and west coast. North coast doesn’t have any roads.

Lol, it’s also considerably shorter.
