...many actually got angry and started talking about laziness and parasitic classes and Karl Marx and free rides and wtf?

Kinja'd!!!

Is it really better to wait for a few dollars that the government has to spare and fill up with plastic and cardboard dissguised as food(and I’m not talking about the packaging) than being able to eat out or being able to buy fresh food(or food that actually tastes like food) in smaller quantities at a time?

Also, before talking about Marx, people should know a few things about him. Many of the people who are viciously critizing Marx, think he was Russian.

If someone gets their idea of the poor in the US from Facebook memes, they have a serious problem.

I do actually kinda of miss having food share. I’m not the kid of person who can just leech off the government when I don’t need to, but when my wife and I first got married I couldn’t find a job, and we were getting about 300 bucks a month in food share. It was pretty awesome to go grocery shopping and just buy what ever. I mean right now going to the grocery store and spending 150 bucks, twice a month is something we just can’t afford. But than again we could if we didn’t have a car payment on my wife’s car, and my old Mitsubishi, that needs more TLC, which is just code for money, and time.

People that share bullshit like this tend to be suburban middle-class types that don’t understand what it is to not have much. They don’t understand that there’s such a thing as “working poor,” or that it’s harder to get out of poverty than anyone actually realizes. It’s much easier to look down on people who fell through the cracks as lazy or stupid when most Americans are just a few paychecks away from the same situation. *links include fart and weiner jokes to keep from being too depressing*

Fuck those idiots.

We’re talking about people who think that a person without political experience makes a great president.

I work in a hospital. Way too many times I see patients on public aid come in wearing designer stuff. Even their toddlers have an iPad and Air Jordans. They get into nicer cars than the people taking care of them. And usually, they barely speak English. I see it in the grocery stores too. People pay for Jones Soda and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and other brand name stuff with food stamps, then when they get to the items the food stamps don’t cover, like alcohol, they pull out a big wad of cash. I see it way too much. The system is there for people who need it, not for people to abuse it. It’s too easy when you work a job that pays cash and/or you don’t marry the woman you knocked up so she can get WIC benefits.

Those people are memorable because they’re possibly abusing the system. But they’re a small (albeit very visible) minority of the people on the dole. Statistically there’s more fraud, waste, and abuse perpetrated by doctors and hospitals who collect the payments from Medicare/Medicaid than by the patients who are eligible for the benefits. But you know — when rich people steal from the government it’s OK.

My refrigerator is usually pretty bare. And it’s mainly because I don’t know how to cook for myself.

Are you sure some of those things are not Chinese knok-offs? Chinatown stores sometimes sell fake label gadgets and clothes.

I live in a poor county where ~40% of the population is on GA. I’m just going to go ahead and say that the only people with ‘stacks of cash’ aren’t flashing them for a 30pack at Walmart.

But thank you for using your anecdotes to perpetuate stereotypes.

The rich want you to see those who abuse the system. They use the poor to scare and distract the (shrinking)middle class, while they run with all the money.

Fun fact: most of the condiments are from my grandparents, who flew south for the winter...they...wait...I didn’t know we had syru! Brb, asking for pancakes for dinner...

They don’t sell knock off H2’s or Yukon Denali’s which, even if bought used, are still expensive and costly to maintain.

Or you don’t want to learn how to cook, lol.

I’m not an expert chef myself, but sometimes I like to try my hand. Some attempts are less successful than others, and make me drop cooking for a few days.

It’s one of those things where I am just not good at. I’ve tried my hand, by the ingredients, follow instructions and it turns out really bland. To the point I don’t want left overs and it becomes just as expensive as eating out. My wife on the other hand, just knows how to cook. She looks at instructions and starts substituting ingredients and she never sets a timer. It always turns out. The problem there is she hates cooking. And both of us work full time. As a result, it’s a lot sandwiches and microwaves.

It’s no wonder all of the poor lazy leech people are so overweight and unable to work, if all they eat is that overly processed garbage “food”.

Shop around the outside of the supermarket if you want to eat healthy (fruits / vegetables / meat / dairy). Funny how that works.

Um, no idea, it’s the wife’s and I’m not allowed to drink it...so naturally I took a swig when she wasn’t looking. It tastes like thin yogurt. It’s not bad, but not something I’d eagerly look forward to.

Oh yeah, she said no to pancakes, :(.

And that’s why capitalism will either reform or crumble under its own greed and arrogance, like many other systems did before.

It simply isn’t right for people who sacrifice their time and vigor to work hard, only to barely get by.

Rich people shouldn’t be admired only for how much they make, but for how they made the money. For how well they treat their employees and partners. And for how much they invest in things like innovation and sustainability.
