The price is eye watering. Got it to almost 90 grand with a few options. The price jumped drastically. The 3.6 starts at $56,490. From there the Platinum trim jumps to $84,460. And from what I can tell, there’s not that much on it that’s worth the over 28 grand price jump. Will it sell, or is it crackpipe already?

There is no reason for it not to sell. Except, unfortunately, for reputation (which is no longer deserved).

CP, but I do live in a country where Cadillac is no longer a thing.

Their reputation is damaged though from years of making shit. No one can forget it yet because the shit is still too recent.

Some part of Europe? Because of the terrible Cadillac BLS?

What I am saying is, when applied to their current cars, it is not deserved. Such is often the case. I'm not talking just about Caddy here.

The thing that Cadillac needs to have just a slim chance of success are wagons and diesel engines. But even if Cadillac would offer these things they would probably don’t sell well. They’re as niche as Infiniti or Lexus in Europe.

Wagons, diesel engines and a significantly lower price than the German (and Swedish, and British) competition.

90k isn’t really that bad compared to the established rivals like the 7er or S class. But one thing that bugs me is the lack of v8 engines, even though downsizing is not necessarely bad.

No one remembers the BLS. Cadillac was never a thing in Europe. In my lifetime (born in 1983) they’ve never, ever, offered anything competitive in Europe. Today included. Until a few years ago the cars themselves were uncompetitive. The ATS and CTS might be great, they’re still overpriced and thus not competitive. The lack of wagons for both, and lack of multiple diesel engines options for both also results in the cars themselves not being competitive for 75% of the relevant market.

The UK, we got the BLS,STS etc. But they never really sold well at all, I’ve seen more grey import mustangs than caddies grey imports or official. When the FP had an AMA with Johan de Nysschen I asked him what they intend to do about the UK market. He said they would be back in 2018 and realises that they have one hell of a battle to steal any market share from Jag, Merc, BMW and Audi.

But that is knocking on the door of the Jag XJ L with a supercharged 5l V8 for a 3.6 V6 and less legroom.

There are potential diesel engines from Opel. But they are not longitudinal. I can’t think of any possible sutable diesel from GM. And undercutting the Swedes and British is a high risk that might not be worth it. I am actually a Cadillac fan but I think Europe should not be the #1 priority as the continent is a hard nut to crack for unestablished brands.

That’s exactly the CT6s Problem imo. What does this want to compete with? The K900? Equus? Or A8, 7ER and S class?

Not shocking at all. Crackpipe markups to push margin into (what would be for any other kind of car) unrealistic territory are the name of the game for lux badges. It’s sensational to see a car marked up to 100% of it’s MSRP, but the folks actually getting these things won’t end up paying that; it’s all lease deals and people who jump away on trade in when the new hotness comes out.

Agreed about it not being the #1 priority. However, if they want to make Europe a priority they have to undercut the established competition significantly.

Who’s going to buy a Cadillac when a car from an established brand costs just as much to buy and won’t depreciate nearly as much (and is thus cheaper to own). Especially in a deeply conservative market, which the market segment the ATS and CTS operate in is, that’s not going to work.

Cadillac will need to stand out. Stand out in something rational, as in; value for money.

I do have an idea though. BMW offers American buyers the opportunity to pick the car up in München, drive it through Europe for a week or two, and then ship it to the US. Free of charge, it might even be cheaper than buying at a dealer. Cadillac could offer something similar.

90k is bad though because its a Cadillac, and the lack of V8 engines. That 2.0 is way to small for a car of this size. I dont care how big its turbo is.

It’s supposedly very light. But yeah, 2.0 liters are not really appropriate for a vehicle in that class. But 90k full loaded is okay. But just barely.

That’s a great idea with the factory delivery. Buying a Cadillac should be a unique experience. Speaking of, there aren’t nearly enough dealerships. ~12 or 15 in Germany. Another factor is brand perception. American cars still have a very bad image for being shitty and what not.

Exactly. And because of this it’s unwise to price cars the same as the established brands that don’t have that reputation (and have dealers everywhere)

They tried to relaunch the brand several times - and failed miserably. Prices are really too high for being BMW clones (nice clones).
