Rules: The car had to be sold brand new in 1993
There are a lot of easy answers here, Mclaren F1, Viper, etc. I decided to pick a V12 grand tourer though. And arguably one of the top 5 best looking BMWs of all time. You can’t go wrong with a BMW 850Ci making making 322 horsepower.

If I had the money, Viper.
If I made what I do now, a 1993 Honda Prelude VTEC. Had a 92 Si, fun, reliable, fuel efficient, sporty little car.

Twin Turbo 300ZX. I had the JDM Fairlady equivalent and it was glorious. I can only imagine how great it would be brand spankin new with no worn bushings and what not.

I’ll take six (liters).
![]() 11/16/2015 at 12:30 |

The correct answer is McLaren F1

1993 Corvette ZR-1
It may be a GM, and in no way connected to my normal Mercury, but a Mercury none the less- that engine was designed by Lotus and built by MERCURY Marine.
Oh, and they’re awesome.

They were! it was the fastest Z car ever made up until recently. 350z and below this was the best of the bunch but I don’t know how it compares with the 370Z.

I saw an 850 the other day driving down the GS parkway. So 80s, so much want! I typically see modern BMWs as a poser car or just something boring for people who have money. But man the styling on that car is so good.

I love the look of the late model C4s too
![]() 11/16/2015 at 12:49 |

I would buy three of them. One to keep in MINT condition, totally stock, put no miles on it, and store it in a climate controlled bunker to later sell for profit. One to LS swap so that I can daily it forever and keep the rotary as a spare for the third car. And the third car in all of it’s rotary goodness. This is why I want time travel invented...

M-B 190E. Final model year of the ‘baby Benz’ before the C-Class arrived.

![]() 11/16/2015 at 12:59 |

If I could see the future, mk IV Supra for investment potential. Or McLaren F1, if price were no object.
On the slightly more realistic side, a Thunderbird Super Coupe. Comfortable, but decent power and handling, and one of the few Thunderbirds you could ever get with a manual.
![]() 11/16/2015 at 12:59 |
|
Continuing the “budget, and lack of hindsight” choices, Olds Achieva SCX. Manual, 185hp, 2700lb - not terrible, even if it is a niced-up Cavalier with a Quad 4 developing too much power to sound like anything other than the engine munching on rocks. OM NOM NOM.
![]() 11/16/2015 at 13:02 |

I don’t even care if it’s a half-assed and ill-handling pig, I wanted one then and I want one now.

Cadillac Seville STS, still one of the most beautiful cars they put out. Plus, because their new, I won’t have to deal with a potential grenade.
![]() 11/16/2015 at 13:39 |
|
Yes, I know it drinks oil at about the same rate as gas, and apex seals are temporary self removing parts of the engine, but I just can’t seem to make myself care about that. The 3rd gen RX-7 is just such a damn cool car that I still want one to this day in spite of it’s....quirks.

Aston Martin Vantage

De Tomaso Pantera SI. 1993 was the last year it was produced and you could get it with a targa roof. And IIRC, 200mph.

Fastest, LOL. These things were horribly slow relatively speaking. 5 minutes in is a drag race between it, a Viper, 911, Esprit, Caterham & TVR. The results are interesting.

I know this is unconventional, but a Nissan NX2000. Extremely underrated peppy little car that has superb handling. No one liked the way it looked, but I dig the weirdness of it.
