Got any plans for it or are you keeping her stock?

Still thinking about getting one of these (with the 22RE, with all due respect).

Even if I had money, I’d keep her stock. I’m getting something else in 10 months and my dad has already put a lot of money in her.

I see it has the infamous suspension sag. Also, I think I have put two and two together... Are you chevy fan drives a ford’s brother?

All I can say is HELL NO. Even with the 3VZ (and one with only 5k miles on it, to boot), the thing can barely get out of its own way. And it’s seriously scary to drive on the freeway. I’d advise against it.

I didn’t know that was a common problem, but to be honest, I kinda like it. Gives it a PreRunner-ish stance. And yes, yes I am.

Trust me, after 4 years with one you get used to it. It teaches you patience and understanding. As for the scaryness on the interstate, something must be up with yours. As long as I keep mine below 85, it’s completely fine.

Honestly, the 3VZE is worth having over the 22RE. Every single extra horsepower is needed, plus as long as the gaskets have already been done, you should be good for a long while. Unlike the 22RE’s ticking time bomb that is the timing chain.

It could also explain the scaryness on the interstate. Have you thought about a small lift on the front, but just getting new OEM springs for the back? It would have close to the same look, but be much more stable.

Well, I’ve lived with mine for about 3 and 1/2 years, but only driven it for about a month, and it was raining the time I drove on the highway. But aside from that, there’s a little steering play and a notchy throttle, but I guess it was mostly the wet. And I’m hoping to get a 1st-gen Lexus LS next year. I’d be fine with the ‘Yota if the old girl just had a 1UZ.

Like I said, I really don’t want to put anymore money into it. Even though it would be my dad’s money, I don’t think it’s worth it because I rarely have to use the interstate and I’d be without it for however long it took our mechanic to get it fixed. Sue me for not fixing it myself, but I don’t have enough time on my hands with school and such to do it myself.

It’s actually a sort of easy swap if you are okay with the slushbox. IIRC the earlier LS’s also had an A340, so they bolt up together. And the earlier 1UZ(pre-1995 I do believe) can run on the stock ecu and wiring harness. But with the steering, mine has very minimal play and was the reason I chose it over similar American trucks from that price point. They all are absolute shit to drive, especially the GMT400.

Oh I understand. I’m taking mine to a shop to have some front end work done soon. They may not break often(sans first head gaskets and poorly redone gaskets), but they are a pain in the ass when they do.

Yeah, when the motor went at 212k, we didn’t have it for quite awhile. I don’t hate driving it, I’d just rather have a car car (i.e. not a truck), and that’s why I wanna get something else.

I plan on picking up something I can autocross and hit some corners with within the next year or so, but I still plan on keeping the Slowrunner around, so I understand the want for a car.

My dad went through the same thing when he let my brother take the F150 to college (just not the autocross part) at got a car, so sometimes he uses the 4Runner to go biking on the trails or when we go hunting.

Since some of my short list of cars is German, I’m sure I will need it quite often still.
