It’s late and I don’t feel like researching. I replaced a rear brake line on my Roadmaster. Do I need to bleed at all four wheels? Or is bleeding the rears enough?
I’m guessing all four.
Here’s the bastard I had to replace. It’s the hard line that goes from the top if the pumpkin to the right rear drum. It rusted through on top of the pumpkin.
As you can see I bad some “fun” with brake line flare kits.

Fairly sure you have to bleed all the brakes (I could be wrong though).

If the master cylinder didnt go dry, you just need to bleed the rears.

Someone can feel free to correct me, but I’m pretty sure you bleed the rears first, then you bleed the fronts, but I would definitely just go ahead and do all four while you’re at it.
It’s a bit late at night, and I should already be asleep, but there is one side you’re supposed to do first..

I know you’re supposed to start farthest from the master cylinder, and work your way closer.

Rear only bleeding will work fine. I went through this with Crusty not long ago. If you need help let me know.

Dual circuit brakes? If so just bleed the rears.

If you only opened one branch and didn’t press the brake pedal or let the master go dry just bleeding that one branch should suffice. If not, you will know rather quickly. That said, best practice is all four and new brake fluid, even if there isn’t any air, is better than old brake fluid.

You should be fine with just the rears. They are on a separate circuit I believe.

Well technically, you would only have to bleed the rears since air most likely didn’t make it into any front brake related components or the master cylinder. Unless, you hit the pedal sometime while the system was open.
But to be safe you really should do it all.

That makes sense. Thanks!

I put a call into my auto shop teacher buddy, but if he’s busy I may take you up on that.

Yep, dual circuit brakes. Thanks!
