I cant wait to put my snows on. The question is when will be the right time?

The right time is the week before the first snow, once the snow hits the ground all bets are off for getting them changed out in a reasonable amount of time. Our local tire shop is about a 4-6 hr turn around right now.

I have the same sets of tires for our cars, WS70’s for the Mazda and the WS80’s for the Outback. They really are a game changer for winter driving. I think the WS70’s are actually quieter and have a better ride than my “summer” tires. The WS80’s are really squishy, on dry pavement it’s a bit like driving on ABC bubble gum.

I already had mine swapped on. Last year we had a freak snowstorm just days before thanksgiving that really hammered my area. I thought about waiting for the 15th, but being a Sunday, most shops arent open. Given the benefits to winter tires in colder weather, I opted to just put them on sooner rather than later.

I just got snow tires for my dd ZX3 and I’m anxious to use them. I’ve never had snow tires for any vehicle before and I really want to experience the difference with them, to see if they’re really as drastic of an improvement as everyone says they are.
Granted, I only bought two for the fronts as those do 95% of the work on that car. We’ll see how it goes.

Me neither. I painted my steelies this fall, but couldn’t decide on a color.

I’m leaning towards early December at this point. I’m watching the weather very carefully. We’ve already had one day of rain that turned into snow (windchill factor).
My G35 with its dedicated snow set is fun, but a totally opposite and demented style of fun compared to my Audi. I miss beating everyone off the line at stoplights with Quattro.

My mom had an SVX with 4-studded snows. It was fun to drag race it on glare ice, that car would scoot out pretty good when everyone else was just sitting and spinning.

Are there two more you haven’t gotten yet? Because 2 snow tires on a car = no bueno.

Id mount them just like that. When you cant decide, the answer is both.

This isn’t even the ones for my wife and my cars, these are customers tires that were dropped off this week.

I have one customer who likes to just put snow tires on the rear (FWD). He figures it will help him stop and not spin out on offramps. I can only recommend and install, I push for all 4... He figures if he can’t go, that’s not a big deal. It’s the turning he’s worried about. I say snow tires on the front helps with stopping too, but I’m just the tire guy...

Is it FWD? I have one customer who drives FWD who only puts snow tires on the back. It’s to prevent spinouts and loss of traction on corners. I say put them on all 4.
The concern with only putting two on the front is that you’ll be able to go and stop fine, but if you need to maneuver at all while stopping, expect to see the back of the car passing you...

Just do it now. Summer tires are no good in the cold anyway. I am putting mine on next weekend. (supposed to be a mild week around here).

WS70s are mega-on sale right now because the WS80s are coming in. Pick up another set of WS70s if you can get them cheap. I totally agree with you about it being a game changer. Sure I got by just fine for 20 years without them, but now that I’ve started using them I won’t go back.
