Progressive quote for Evo X MR: $470 and change a month
FRS: $293.40/month
BRZ: $273.09/month
2013 Mazdaspeed 3 is $266/month
Is Progressive telling me they’re more okay with me having a 6 speed manual turbo hatch over a 200hp RWD coupe?

I never understood insurance rates at all. I think they just make up numbers.

Honda CRV: $3/month.

Progressive just straight hates Mitsubishis. Fun idea for a post: see what ridiculous cars you can insure for less than that Evo. C7? Mustang GT350? Raptor? I'm interested in this.

all the big companies hate Mitsu’s...they all quoted me in the $700 range :[

Gross. I insure my P71, the wife’s ML350, and my Mustang for $170/mo. I expect that I'm a bit older than you are.

+1 for the Jack Tripper gif.
-3 for diluting it with those other 3.

It is the demographic. People wreck the Evo at a higher rate than the others.

Just like WRXs, Evos get a bad reputation at insurance companies due to how many punks crash them.

Don’t worry, the adjuster side is just as confusing given all the liability rules that differ from state to state. I’m learning that car insurance is a fickle thing.

Do you have a bad driving record? That seems quite high.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:18 |

Nope, clean as a whistle. I just happen to be in a bad age range and an expensive state
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:18 |

Yikes. I’m 31 and in RI, our rates aren’t too awful. I used to be $250 or so just for my and my wife’s two cars before I switched to Geico...cut that shit in half.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:19 |

how bad is your record....? none of those numbers make sense. im 23 and pay 60 a month for a focus st on geico
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:19 |

That's pretty much it. I expect the same thing to happen to BRZ/FRS once they come down in price and idiots buy and crash them trying to do their best Initial D impression.

My parents have been with state farm for as long as I can remember and when I got my license I got under a family policy. As soon as I got my license it jumped to around 1.5k/year. THEN I dropped out of college and lost a huge discount so it’s over 2k now for everybody. It’s eye watering how much it’d be to insure myself through State Farm
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:22 |

clean as can be

I can’t believe how much insurance varies between states! The most expensive car that I have ever insured was an STi @ $150/month. I was 21.

Holy shit! I pay £450/$685 a YEAR on an 05 GTI in the UK, and because I’m a young man I’m considered high risk. Your insurance is crazy.

Bigger question is whether you are doing just liability or full comprehensive and collision. Just saying “insurance” is kind of ambiguous for what your prices actually mean. I pay about $90 a month for just liability on my Miata, seems high but again is NJ and I am 24.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:33 |

Would one of your parents be down to put the car in their name? Might save you a bunch.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:34 |

well for one skip progressive they suck. geico is cheaper guaranteed but you should look at non performance cars to see if those numbers are weird as well
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:35 |
|
Did you tell them that you leave your car unlocked and running in a strip mall parking lot near a pub and/or crack den and that you have had several crashes and lost your license for DUI or something?
For context, for the first time ever the Mustang is sold officially here in the UK and I can insure a Mustang GT for $1400 a year.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:37 |

the FRS, BRZ, and Evo X were full comprehensive with 500 deductibles seeing as they’d be leases. The Speed 3 was just liability, 500 deductible
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:38 |

Gecio wanted $800 a month for the evo alone, haven’t gotten quotes for anything else after that.

Check with Geico. I’m in south Jersey around Cherry Hill with a 2010 Golf TDI - $145/mo I’m 25 years old, 1 ticket on the record (everything I had before has fallen off my record thank God) No accidents
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:39 |

I live in a safe area, clean record..they just assume I’m going to wrap my car around a tree in .000001 seconds
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:39 |

Gecio was one of the higher quotes for the Evo, haven’t checked again since

Wow. Insurance is one of the reasons I bought my Golf. Its not fast and no one in them is in a hurry to get anywhere. +1 for nerds in diesel Golfs saving me money.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:43 |

They are assholes.
Will it ever really get cheaper? Or is car insurance a continual fucking over in Jersey?
My insurance renewal price was £840 and I said I could get it for 500 elsewhere, they came down to 700 so I politely declined and cancelled the renewal.
I went online and got a quote with them as a new customer and got it for 450. Assholes.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:44 |

it’ll get lower if I literally move a state over. I’d pay $800 for a year for an Evo in Pennsylvania
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:46 |
|
Well that would probably explain a lot of the price differences too lol. Ideally to draw any conclusions about the car type affecting price, having the mileage, price, year, and insurance being near constant across the board would be more relevant. The Evo is going to come out higher no matter what though.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:47 |

You could ping the dealer that is offering the lease deal.
“Hey I really want to take that EVO off your hands, but I cant find anyone who will insure it for a reasonable price”.
Dealers will do anything to sell you a car, especially a new one. A lot of times dealers are partnered with insurance companies too.
(When I bought the Audi, they offered a quote from Nationwide and it was cheaper than I am paying with State Farm. I declined because I have been doing business with my State Farm guy for a long time and they have been amazing the few times that I have had to make a claim.)
So you could say “If you can find me someone who will insure it for $xxx per month, I will come and pick it up tonight!”
It’s a longish shot, but I bet you whoever gets that message will at least try.

PA is a nice place to live right? Some space, Mr Regular lives there as does Doug.
Almost worth it if you can find a job there.

Yeah as attractive as the state is...I just got a promotion for my job here so I can’t justify a move
![]() 11/13/2015 at 15:53 |

No chance of moving to a different location within the same business.
I could move to Daytona if my company wanted me to. I’d decline because although I love the US the employment laws are better here.

Lol, WRXs and Evos. The crowd who buys them are the absolute worst drivers and the insurance premiums reflect that. ZIP also plays a large role in the premium unless the state forbids it. If you live in a city or a low income area you’re gonna get boned.
If I lived 1 zip over (1/2 mile) my insurance would be 35% less.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 16:03 |

remember, insurance rates take into account nit just the raw performance of the vehicle, but the historic accident record of the vehicle and its cost to repair. My guess is that 'Speed 3s are cheap to repair and tend to be driven by responsible/good drivers.

When i was looking to buy a new car it was going to be $105 for a 2003 Corvette Z06 (400hp) and $187 for a 14 BRZ Limited (200hp). I am 23 and that was for full comp and collision.

It’s like his shirt is designed to be camouflage for the wall paper. Also, as a GTI owner, why are none of my walls tartan plaid?

I pay €180 a YEAR for my ‘88 205 GTI. I bet those things were far more expensive to insure when they were more recent. Same for your Golf I bet. Also, liability only?
![]() 11/13/2015 at 16:35 |

You know what’s probably a huge issue for the Evo? Front-mount intercooler. The repair cost of even a 5mph fender-bender could be triple that of a car like the TMIC MS3, even if the driver behavior profiles are similar.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 16:57 |
|
Eh not sure about that. I’m paying about 55$/mo for my jeep, with every box i can tick. Different kind of car, but still an expensive one, and I’m the cheapest of anybody I’ve talked to in my club.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 20:01 |

Price to replace in the event of the crash.
2013 mazda is @ 17k, so 3/4 the price of brz and half that of the Evo.
What kind of deductible do you have? increasing the amount means you’re less likely to file claims. I ended up raising mine and saved more.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 20:03 |

All were at 500
![]() 11/14/2015 at 02:05 |

Then I would say based on vehicle value with the evo taking a second hit for higher HP.
Do you live in a high crime area or street park?

I live in a nice area of a town with a rather highish vehicle crime rate (auto theft is apparently up)
