So I’ve had this car for almost 8 years and through various repairs, engine swaps, and breakdowns, I’ve never had to get it towed. I have been able to fix any issue that came up while driving on the road so that I never had to get a tow or leave the car where it broke down.

That is until this morning....

With only about 10 minutes left in my 40 minute daily commute, the engine shutoff without warning. Turns out, the crank position sensor wire has been rubbing on the A/C belt for a while and finally rubbed through all of the way. Luckily getting a new sensor isn’t too hard but man the ego hit is brutal.

Well, hopefully the repair is quick and straightforward. Hope it gets back on the road quick!

From what I can tell, I just need to take the A/C belt and crank pulley off. Then it is just two bolts holding it in place. The hard part will be the crank pulley but I’m hoping a breaker bar and blipping the starter will take car of it.

You have to take the pulleys off just to get to the sensor?

I know that feel. Over 200,000 miles, nearly 30 years old, and she’s been 100% reliable for me until this happened over 200 miles from home:

Fortunately, I was able to fix it in a Toys R Us parking lot and carry on, but yeah, it’s a huge blow to your ego and faith in the car.

This area has already been thoroughly gentrified.

Yeah the trigger wheel is behind the pulley. With the pulley on, you can barely see where the wire connects to the bottom of the sensor and the bolts are hidden.

That looks fun! Mine was inconvenient to reach but was a little easier. Good thing though since that sensor tends to go bad frequently
