The Honda RA302 (1968) was an aircooled prototype with a magnesium body, which, after killing one of its drivers, postponed Honda from joining F1 again until 2006.

I think I’m in love....

Finally got around to watching that. The footage at the end of Roger Williamson burning is perhaps the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. You can see David Purley’s actions turn to desperation and then to hopelessness as he realizes his friend is dead. The marshals standing by doing nothing. The fact that there was a fire extinguisher out of shot that Purley had to fetch himself. It was all ridiculous, the death was most likely avoidable.

Gut wrenching. It’s good that things are different these days.

Yeah, I specifically remembered thinking the end was heartbreaking. Purley’s reaction really says it all. There’s honestly so many crazy issues with that era and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.

^ Same. It seems like Group B was cancelled almost over a single death, and you can understand the logic behind that. For F1 to have gotten so so bad, while those in charge actively resisted changes. Boggles the mind.
