So what if you decide to jump on a fire-sale deal on a 2013 Golf TDI?

A) Will VW cover costs associated with the recall if you bought the vehicle AFTER the scandal broke and the recall announced?

B) If you live in a county with intense pollution restrictions, will you be allowedto register it without said recall being implemented?

C) Will existing warranties be honored, extended, or voided?

D) Would you bother, even with prices for clean, practically new CPO TDIs being essentially trade-in value?

I have never bought a ‘cpo’ vehicle because to me, ‘cpo’ typically means ‘bullshit acronym the dealer uses to charge more’.

Having said that, I would still buy a VW TDI if the price was right, given the car’s age, condition and mileage.

But I have yet to own one because the once that sell for a price I would consider reasonable have typically been beat to hell.

Not to get too far off topic but Lincoln’s CPO is pretty badass.

I bought CPO as a form of extended warranty. For some CPO isn’t much more than an extended inspection, but VW’s is 2 year or 24,000 mile warranty which for me was enough to get a feel for if the car will be reliable or not (for a VW). I figured within 2 years the TDI value should hold pretty well. That was about 16 months ago, joke’s on me.

Absolutely NOT! I wouldn’t buy a brand new iPhone for $250 on Craigslist either. Because it would likely be stolen, and buying from a theif supports the market for stolen goods. Giving them reason to steal again. Why support companies that knowingly commit fraud? Just to save a few bucks? It’s time our society starts holding people to higher moral standards.

This question makes NO SENSE. VW Dealers CANNOT sell TDIs yet, much less with a CPO. You cannot buy a TDI from VW now, and I guess you could buy one from a non-VW dealer, but that’s not a CPO vehicle.

They might offer CPO TDI vehicles post fix/recall, and then we will see. Recalls apply to current owners, so it will be OK if you buy the vehicle now, but why? Biggest risk is you live in a state with tight emission controls (e.g. California) and your state refuses to let you pass Smog Check until the fix is installed, so you may have a non-driveable car for a while.

CPO sometimes as mentioned is BS, (meaning the car qualifies for CPO due to age/mileage) but no inspection is done. A buddy of mine got a CPO Phaeton a few years ago that was evidently not inspected before the sale. The joke was on VW, as they had to pay $7000 for a new transmission and other thingies.

I’d buy one because fuck this dieselgate scanda-whatever it is. Sensationalist media bullshit needs to die in a fucking fire.
