Started fallout 4 last night.

Between installing and spending too much time trying to make my character look like me and failing twice I managed to get out of the vault before calling it quits. I think I will just start a new game and see if I can’t recreate this beautiful creation of nature I call my face.

A few hours in and problems like that will seem trivial.

I’m about 6 hours in now, I’ve encountered a few bugs but they’ve been harmless. So far I’ve got:

AI pathing issues

People disappearing and re-appearing (maybe that’s Bethesdas’ solution to the pathing issues? Or just classic Bethesda)

Sound lag/cut issues if I go out to PS4 home screen and come back to game

Pre-patch there was an issue with the “favorite wheel” thing for weapons, think that’s fixed now.

But honestly, nothing game breaking has ocured yet and the game is good enough that the small things don’t bother me. I mean, this is Bethesda, the glitches are half the fun.

I’m curious, what do other oppos think of the game and what bugs have you guys & gals encountered?

Have you got to the portion where they want you to build settlements? Heh.

I’ve only played an hour or so. So far I’ve found it amazing and confusing all at once. Feels like a lot has changed from New Vegas in the control scheme and game play.

I concur! The general experience is good so far, but some of the controls are a bit wonky to learn.

I keep forgetting I have a can melee with guns, I often forget I can switch weapons with the favorites thing (though it’s more advantageous to pick form the pip-boy anyway, stops time and all), and I’d even forgotten about V.A.T.S until I accidentally hit it whilst forgetting every button in a surprise encounter.

I’m digging the construction stuff though, creating a little town is kind of fun and the weapon/armor modifications are amazing thus far.

The settlement portion I find extremely confusing. I have no idea what items contain what resources. Most of it doesn’t make sense. A bathroom sink doesn’t have copper despite the visible piping? Computer and television monitors don’t contain circuits? Then there’s the power, how am I supposed to know what connectors I need or pylons, so confused. How am I supposed to assign people to posts? They really should have made a tutorial for that.

Grab a photo of your self and just focus on one aspect at a time. Duplicating things is a lot easier when you have what you want and what you have to work with side by side.

There are quite a few on PC some which are game breaking so nothing new there. For whatever reason entering a termnial will frame rate lock your game which can cause you to get stuck and then not be able to do anything. Audio is desynced with increasing regularity. I had one occasion where I teleported back to where I was 30 seconds ago like lag in a multiplayer game. There is probably a lot more just waiting for me but Bethesda’s games are notoriously buggy and when they get patched and the mods come out the game will run silky smooth.

I took two days off to play it through and beat it. Lots of small texture glitches, the companions have gotten better at moving around (they can jump down things now). The graphics are excellent and the weapon crafting and perk systems are crazy deep and very interesting. The campaign also has greatly improved in terms of scope and length over the previous two most recent titles. I r8 8 out of 8 m8

I haven't encountered any noticeable bugs. I'm sure there are some, but the game is amazing so I haven't noticed them.

The controls feel mostly the same to me, they just added the melee with guns and changed the hotkey system. I keep forgetting to assign my perks when I level up and to actually use the new critical system.

It definitely is a bit overwhelming at first, and even after 10 hours. I have about 15 open quests and the city is so dense I keep getting more and more.

VATS used to be V now it’s Q. V is like 3rd person now. So whenever I want to go to VATS I accidentally change my perspective lol.

I really like it. Of course haven’t really done anything yet but I love the graphics and style of it.

I dont understand why people complain about the graphics. Maybe cuz nerds with super computers? I dont know what it is but I think maybe just how far I can see in the game makes it feel much more real. instead of walking into a blurry landscape and trees and crap suddenly pop up.

The music is great. One thing I dont like is the popups game tips I think I might have missed a few because I was focused on the dialog or action of the game and missed the green box. I dont even know how to use vats.

I hadn’t really thought about it but now that you mention it, the graphics are pretty good on the PS4. I’ll end up playing it on PC at some point, and the graphics will definitely be better, but I haven’t thought “wow, these graphics suck” on the PS4 version. The draw distance is good and I haven’t really had that “bam, there’s a building here” experience, as you noted. Good catch!

The popups can be a pain, they either don’t stay long enough for me to notice/read them or they keep nagging me about stuff I know. I get that they didn’t want to stop the gameplay for a dialog window or something, but that might have worked better here, especially with building stuff.

I’ve been avoiding Diamond city because I can’t imagine the side quests I’ll pick up. I haven’t even looked into the critical system any more than “oh cool, I got a critical hit”, seems I’ve got some research to do!

This is good to know, I’ll be playing on PC eventually (I always go console first for some reason) and the control changes are going to trip me up a bit.

I thought about taking some days off, but my SO may be a bit less than understanding. Only two days? I’m nowhere near that focused, I’m 6.5 hours in and just finally cleared the Corvega factory. I took Codsworth as my companion on that, wrong choice as he apparently cannot sneak.

I wish they had a tutorial for this stuff as well, they have the tips pop up but their either gone to fast or overbearing in how much they pop up. Some of the junk you break down doesn’t really make sense as you noted, I feel like they could have polished that a bit more. That’s what mods are for!

I haven’t messed with pylons yet, so I assumed you just run wires for everything. Assigning people is weird, sometimes they assign themselves. If you enter construction mode (or whatever it’s called) you can select people, they highlight whatever you want them to work on and hit X (or your equivalent, I’m on PS4) to assign them. I noticed it doesn’t always work, sometimes it lags a bit before actually assigning so I end up picking up the object I was trying to assign to.

One neat thing they did is that for farming you don’t need to assign a person to each plant, you can assign a person to one plant and they’ll automatically cover up to 6 food things.

Oh yea, Bethesda games are one large bug. I usually pick up the console version first as they seem to work better out of the box. After a few months though, and especially with mods, the PC game ends up more stable and much prettier/more fun.

Neither codsworth or dog meat can sneak, my companions kept getting me killed, now I just clomp around in power armour everywhere I go!

I have too many sidequests, but the main storyline is really good so I’ve mostly stuck to it.

There’s an ‘Execute Critical’ function. I believe the way it works is you charge up your critical as you fight and you can chose to get a critical hit in VATS. I always forget it’s there.

Ah, that’s the problem. I consistently forget to use VATS, really would help for large cluster bandit fights.

I wont spoil anything, but youll run in to a character named nick valentine. I used him for a majority of the game, hes pretty tough and can carry an entire spare suit of power armor.

Yes draw distance I forgot that term. I am playing on the xbox one and love it. I like how some games incorporate a training period but do so naturally. I am thinking of halo where its under the ploy that the suit needs calibration. Of course fallout is such a different game not sure I have the answer as to how it could be done. Or just as you said makethe popups last longer or something.
