Interested in when the next Mazdaspeed 3, CX-9, and (overly hopeful) Mazdaspeed 6 will be coming out. The next RX is still a dream, but hopefully the fantastic reaction from everyone to the concept means they’ll actually move forward with development.

I didn’t thing they’ve confirmed any new speeds for production

I figured another generation of Speed3 was a pretty sure thing. I really hope I’m not wrong...

Rumors inside of the Mazda world are still kept pretty tight about upcoming speeds and release schedule. Its been a bit frustrating, I still be we will see a speed CX-3 if it sells well enough due to its AWD.

This is the most detailed information I could find, but it’s still months old.

The accompanying PDF timeline has been completely accurate for Mazda so far though. I haven’t heard anything substantial about a new Mazdaspeed 6, but I sincerely deeply hope they build one as that’s basically automatically the next car I buy.

That’d be interesting, but it’s based on the next Mazda 2 platform. Seems to make more sense to do the work on the Speed 3, as that platform is shared with the 6 and the CX-5.

I hope first quarter 2016 is right for the CX-9. My wife’s ‘08 is getting a little long in the tooth, but holding up well for 175k miles.
Speed6 would be fantastic, but they may be scared off by the last one’s sales.

Also true, but to stay competitive in the upcoming speed car market AWD is needed. Unless they do another speed 6 since there is AWD available overseas. I still keep holding hope for another B-Series.

If the speed3 was awd I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Really hope they do that soon. seriously looking for a hatchback for my wife who wants a fast one, but she doesn't like the FoST. We used to have a 10 MS3 but the torque steer was not for me.

I recall the new Speed3 was supposed to be revealed at Frankfurt, but wasn’t. The only thing they brought was a new CUV concept .
Folks also keep talking about a 2.5 turbo Mazda6, possibly AWD with either a CVT or DSG, but nothing firm has emerged. Considering the recent trends with higher output sedans (I just read this morning Nissan says the 3.5 version of the facelifted 2016 Altima will be less than 2% of total sales and it could be gone by the time the totally new Altima comes out in a couple of years) and the generally perceived failure of the original Speed6, I’d really wonder if maybe this isn’t all just pipe dreams on our part.
I know enthusiasts are clamoring for a Speed3 and/or Speed6 or at the least higher output engines in the regular cars, but sedan sales have plummeted over the past few years and look to dive further. I just don’t see a smaller manufacturer spending precious R&D on a niche performance sedans when their CUVs are selling faster than they can make them. Now a Mazdaspeed CX3? That could be a thing.

Sorry to be so cynical...

I’m kind of hoping that Ford making a performance version of their Fusion will be the last bit of impetus that Mazda needs to work on a Mazdaspeed 6, if they haven’t started already.

That’s the rumor, and hopefully it won’t be long!
I’ve also heard that a WRX wagon may be coming back.
Focus RS too pricey, I assume?

There’s no way Mazda uses a CVT and I’ve never heard any rumor regarding that for any of their vehicles. They’ve spent a lot of money on developing their SkyActiv transmissions and I don’t foresee them ever using a CVT in the near or even distant future.

Realistic expectations are realistic.
I’d be really surprised if we saw a Mazdaspeed CX-3 before the 3 gets that treatment. I’m honestly surprised it’s taken so long. Seems like they could steal quite a few buyers from Subaru with a fast AWD hatch.

Ever? Nevereverever? I hope you’re right. Nissan killed the damn Maxima for me with one...

Well that says it would have debuted at the Frankfort autos how but im pretty sure the Frankfort autos how has come and gone with no announcement

In the near or distant future.
Mazda has always prided itself on its fun to drive attitude, and while I really have no problems with CVTs in and of themselves, it runs completely counter to Mazda’s corporate and public facing “philosophy” on designing cars. A DCT might possibly be in their future, but I still wouldn’t count on it.
They like the way they’ve designed their SkyActiv AT to use a torque converter under 5mph and then switch to a conventional clutch-plate manumatic at anything higher.
![]() 11/12/2015 at 12:32 |

Mazda IS pretty sold on the Skyactiv automatic, which is sort of a traditional hydraulic autobox with some DSG-like components. But right now the manufacturers are all sort of experimenting with their own proprietary systems. I just wouldn’t be surprised if in the not too distant future they don’t start to converge on a single technology. Right now Subaru, Honda and Nissan are in the tank for CVTs. That could drive the market.
And to be fair, I’ve only heard a few rumors about Mazda using CVTs in concept mules, but their engineers are firmly standing behind Skyactiv.

I definitely agree that it’s contrary to their philosophy. Did they talk about what transmission might come with a new RX? I’d guess they’d offer a dual-clutch, hopefully with the manual option, too.
I didn’t know that about their SkyActiv AT - very cool.
![]() 11/12/2015 at 12:43 |

I haven’t heard anything about the new RX. I also don’t know where anyone has heard about them using a CVT for anything.
As far as I know they have 3 transmissions right now, the SkyActiv MT, the SkyActiv AT, and apparently in the new Miata they still use the older AT, because of some kind of packaging issues with the SkyActiv AT on the Miata platform.
I have a feeling a DCT might be too complicated and too long-term unreliable for Mazda’s liking (and heavy, too). But again, I’m just completely speculating right now.

I would have bought the WRX wagon instead of my Viper had it been available. Was looking to stop getting crazy used cars and go for something practical. I left my practicality at Subaru after driving the manual crosstrek and it just felt so slow. I would likely get a WRX wagon for my wife if she liked it.
Focus RS is too pricy. My dad has an ST and we just don’t like it that much (don’t attack me!)
We did try out the GLA250 and actually liked it quite a bit, but I think it was the MB dealership experience, new car smell, and luxury tricking us.

I knew their new AT was good, but didn’t know why. Here’s some marketing. Probably has to do with that little guy in the transmission.

Hopefully you’ll be able to choose between a Speed3 and a WRX hatch soon.
Yeah, the smell of new, fine leather is intoxicating...

Well there’s your problem, other car. There’s a bird in your engine.

That’s why I save money by using Chemical Guys Leather Air Spray. It is amazing and way cheaper than buying a new car!
I really hope so too!

dont bother with the new car smell one. It has a clean smell, but nothing like the leather spray. I sprayed it in my 13 year old viper that actually has great connolly cognac leather seats and everyone is like “wow I cant believe how good the leather still smells in here!” I swear by most of CG’s stuff after trying out a lot of other products.

Ever done any leather reconditioning? Not sure whether it’s worth trying myself (with Leatherique or something like that) or I should just pay someone to do it.
![]() 11/12/2015 at 16:25 |

My leather is in pretty good condition already. I use mothers VLR and I think it does okay, but never needed anything more. Funny enough, my Elise was one of the only ones with cloth seats and I had a 86 MB 420 SEC with cloth seats as well, so the Viper is only the second car that I’ve had leather on. The VLR makes it look and feel a little better, but I think it will help protect most of all. It really doesnt recondition. My only hint is to massage it in with your fingers instead of a rag. If I were you I would try it myself, can’t be that hard and someone else is gonna charge way too much.

It’s weird, the driver’s seat in my M3 still looks good after 7 years, but the finish on the passenger-side bolster was pretty worn after the first owner. His girlfriend must have always worn those jeans with all kinds of bedazzled shit on the back pockets...
![]() 11/12/2015 at 17:16 |

Yeah that is pretty odd. It's always the other way around. If say just get some good conditioning cream and spend some time massaging her; great bonding time!
![]() 11/12/2015 at 17:45 |

Hahaha - I think it will take a little more than that. The dye/finish is like a paint layer (right?) and it’s worn away in some places. No tears in the actual leather, thankfully.

haha I could take a guess but it'd be just that. I do know that for your other seats put some protectant on them now. And stay away from armor all leather wipes. Garbage. im curious about leather reconditioning now. Time to google!
