The Renault Oroch, based on the Duster and available with boring 2.o and 1.6 engines, manual gearbox and only FWD.

No. But I wouldn’t buy any kind of pickup truck. If I need a bed, I’ll get a trailer.

Me neither, but I found it weird that Renault released it, there is no market for it

Something I’m not really understanding about this car. Renault and Fiat are laying foundation for a new segment? Will it be placed between the Compact trucklets like the Saveiro/Strada/Montana and the Light Trucks like the S10/Ranger...? I wasn’t even aware there was a market for this.
And that interior. *shudders*
I’m absolutely certain these things will sell like crazy, though.

It’s exactly what I was thinking, there is no market for it, who would want that?
![]() 11/11/2015 at 08:58 |

You need this.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 08:58 |

Nope. I think it’s a continental thing. If I need to carry anything, we’ve got a small 1-ton trailer to do that with.
Oh, we’re also building a 1350kg car trailer/flatbed from the chassis of an abandoned caravan we found on the side of the road so we'll have that too!
It does strike me that it would fulfil all of the genuine pickup needs of the majority of the American public though (apart from size and brashness).

I would, it seems smaller and more efficient than a “real” truck, but I wouldn’t have to modify it to carry my bikes/kayak/surfboard/etc. like I have with all my cars (tow hitch, aftermarket roof rack, etc...)

I’d totally buy a tiny little trucklet like this if someone sold it in the US.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:02 |

Cheap, fuel efficient, for doors, and a bed? I would consider it. Not bad looking, either.

Definitely mixed emotions. I love Renaults, so tempted to say yes... right up to the moment I saw it had a typical Renault motor. Fine in typical small Renault cars... harder to judge in this. The Manual gear box is a big plus, Nissan, look you can build an SUV/Truck with a manual, go talk to your French masters.
Personally this is NOT a truck, a truck needs a separate bed, and body on frame construction. This is really an SUV with a cargo bed area. In that regard a small motor is not so bad, many SUVs have small motors. Also since it will definitely not make it to the US it will not get fat on a heavy on a corn syrup safety diet. While personally I’d love to see a larger motor option it may not be such an issue for most buyers. I'm left nervous in this regard but maybe.
I’m really curious if Renault borrowed any, experience or parts from Nissan. If not I think they should be given a sharp smack up side the head for ignoring a resource that clearly has much more experience in this kind of vehicle.
I guess to give an answer, I'll let you know after I test drive it... probably in Spain, but need to try it out in Germany as well.

It’s a crossover with the rear roof cut off. No thanks.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:12 |

OK, except this is clearly NOT a pickup truck... so would you buy it or not.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:12 |

Possibly. I had a VW diesel pickup, FWD only, with a 1.6 45hp diesel for several years.

Technically no one.
But you know our market well enough. People are just going to buy them as status symbols as usual and live with it, pretending it was a good choice.
It’s going to be the EcoSport phenomenon we had back in 2005 when people started inventing reasons to justify this type of vehicle because it looked cool, even though it handles like a walmart cart with a loose wheel, has the build quality of a preschool project and the cargo space of a bike.

Seems pointless to me, but I can see it selling like hotcakes in S America. Just wait, you’ll see one with ten people in the bed as well as all seats occupied.

No

I’d buy it if it had AWD and either a 2.0-2.5 turbo subaru motor or a 2.0-3.0 vw tdi...
Yes I have always wanted a baja...

How is this thing not a pickup truck?
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:31 |

My Mk1 Golf pickup fulfilled all my pickup truck needs sans towing more than a cargo trailer, but at the same time, it had a much longer bed than this. That’s the flaw I see here - I don’t see a midgate or other accommodation for longer items. Granted, it has an extra several seats, which would have been nice that time I drove to a Foo Fighters concert and made one of my two friends ride in the bed...

A gas station? Probably, had I had a truck like that.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:40 |

That's what I was thinking.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:45 |

But would you buy a Duster?
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:50 |

No. I’m <65 years old and my hips aren’t worn out, so I don’t need/want a crossover.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:51 |

I'd get neither, as I slightly believe in more space. Cactus all the way!
![]() 11/11/2015 at 09:55 |

Would drive untill I saw FWD. Nope.

If it can tow 3,000 lbs I’d buy one if I could afford it.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 10:04 |

Would I? No. Does the US need it? Yes. You don’t need a giant bro truck to haul potting soil to your garden. Sometimes you need a little truck.

The Oroch is going to do well with surfers and in beach cities. Hell, I live in a state that doesn`t even have beaches and in my city, Belo Horizonte, I see LOTS of VW Saveiros and FIATs Stradas.
![]() 11/11/2015 at 10:13 |

Yes, but technically is two new markets, the FIAT Toro is bigger than the Renault, but still smaller than the S10, Ranger, Amarok...
![]() 11/11/2015 at 10:18 |

The slight bigger but smaller than a Chevy Colarodo FIAT Toro has big chances to be sold in America as a RAM Rampage

In Sao Paulo I rarely see any pick-ups, and when I do, they are all from the countryside.

Pickup trucks have a separate bed from the cab, and are body on chassis. this is an SUV with an open cargo area.

You don’t need a giant bro truck to haul potting soil to your garden. Sometimes you need a little truck trailer.
I believe I fixed it.

WHAT?! Seriously?!
I thought they’d be roughly the same size so they’d sit in the same market.

single cab , yes
double cab , no
