After what seems like an eternity of searching for a new car I finally decided to pull the trigger on one. While it wasn’t exactly the smartest buy of my life (never look at a car in the dark people) I’m pretty satisfied with my new toy. My goal was to find a car that could effectively be daily driven and put a smile on my face while doing so, which my ‘86 MR2 did wonderfully but after moving this past year my daily commute became much worse and I knew the MR2 wouldn’t be able to hold up. After falling in love with the cheap parts, great reliability and phenomenal driving dynamics the MR2 offered I decided to go with the almost exact opposite car. A front wheel drive, British built, not so reliable, expensive to maintain, box on wheels.
However, there is one great similarity between my new car and the MR2 and that’s their engines. While I was moping around in my naturally aspirated 1.6L 4AGE, there were other, luckier people who had a supercharged 1.6L 4AGZE. This time around, I made sure to get the car that had the supercharged 1.6L engine. I would imagine by now everybody knows exactly what my new car is so I suppose its time to unveil it (him, maybe).
Its a Mini Cooper S of course! After my test drive of the car, I knew I had to have it. I wont go into detail about the car now but for all of the little nagging issues that it has, an boy there are a lot of them, when you want to get on it, the car is more than happy to oblige. I think of it like a puppy because you can just sense that this car wants to play and hoon about. Now if only my wallet is prepared for what this car is going to do to me.......

While they’re not Corolla reliable, they’re also not Renault Fuego un reliable. Keep up on the PMs and it’ll be fine and fun!

I’ve been a BMW (older of course) owner/enthusiast for a long time now so preventative maintenance and general upkeep are second nature by now and with the Mini it’s basically all the same so I’m not walking into it blind!

Congrats - this was my second choice, but I decided on an Abarth. Great looking color! I have a thing for gray cars..

Then you’re way ahead of me! I drove an early Cooper years ago and loved it. I felt the little supercharger was perfectly suited to the car and it sounded great.
