I spent some time working on the VR-4 today. And I fixed it! It was dying when you hit the brakes. Which was very annoying, but it taught me to heel toe pretty quick. I did a few things and honestly I don’t know which thing fixed it but it doesn’t do it any more. Plus the car was over heating, which as it turns out was because I didn’t have enough coolant. After replacing the water pump I topped off the coolant but didn’t check it after it had recirculated, I had to ad almost another gallon of coolant/water mix.
I also spent a few minutes cleaning the beast. I washed a car, in a t-shirt on November 9th in northern Wi.. but I need snow to play in.
And regarding the post I made yesterday.

It worked great. took about 45 minutes in all, including the time it took to put spray some fresh undercoating in the fender. I think they turned out alright. I didn’t do the rears yet. There was no existing holes for bolts in the rear, and I didn’t have any self tappers.
I’ve got to say it’s pretty great to look at a car and see, that you’ve fixed or improved a lot of things on it, with your own to hands. there is still a long list of things this car needs, but that just means more excuses to turn a wrench.

A quick troubleshooting step would be to pull your idle air valve and clean it, or pop the hoses off and cover with a rag (to prevent stalling), then spray Seafoam in to clean out any gunk.
But assuming your idle is otherwise fine (you can blip the throttle and let off without revs falling to nothing), you’ll want to check your brake booster. A big vacuum leak when you hit the brakes would stall you.

I think it was a vacuum leak. on of the four vacuum line on top of the throttle body was no slid on all the way and torn a bit on the end. I just slid it on all the way. I also set the idle higher, it was down at 5-600RPM when warm, I set it to 800 where it should be. I also fond an electrical connector behind the engine that wasn’t connected to anything, I found the other end and plug it back in. I honestly don’t know what it was, but I’m gonna say it should have been together hahaha. I don’t think the high engine temp was helping either.
