An old Hoboken Police Caprice 9c1 from the late 80’s with original markings still on it. This thing looks awesome.

Looks freshly retired, but I did happen to find pictures of the same car on Triborough’s Flickr.

Cool gallery! Gotta love the old Suburban and the mobile command center. The other, older patrol cars look like they’ve been nicely restored.

I accidentally sprayed myself in the face with Mace in one of those, ca. 1988.

Good times.

Not much to it, it was my dad’s car and I was a little kid, and he was letting me play around inside it while he talked to the neighbors. I guess holding the can and pressing the top seemed like a good idea at the time, too bad I was too young/stupid to know to check which way it was pointing.

That happens way more than it should.

Boy, I remember when those were considered really big.

Next to a Chevy Equinox (?) in front of it, it doesn’t look that big anymore.

That’s me in the car, I bought it from the city of Hoboken with only 112k miles not long before the Google car rolled by. I was on the phone and kinda recall seeing a car with Google all over it with the camera on top. Wow, I can’t believe someone actually randomly found this pic. The transmission gave out in New Jersey while driving and then some scumbags lowlifes broke most of the windows and slashed the tires. Now it has brand new tires, windows and the transmission was recently rebuilt. It’s getting the Hoboken police markings and equipment back in it after I do some more repairs to it and make it much nicer.

That’s awesome! I just remember playing around on Street Views and seeing it, really stood out. You just don’t see freshly retired looking Caprices anymore.

I’m sure you’ve seen these pictures of the car in service....

Yea I’ve seen them...even before I bought the car I recall seeing recent pics of it, and then when I bought it, I looked back and saw it was my car number! There’s Cops episodes from ‘91 that show them in Hoboken, they drive cars just like this one..here’s one I found on youtube..

I wondered how you knew it was a car from Hoboken lol.

Wow, that’s awesome! I remember seeing the picture randomly on Flickr and thinking it’s amazing that they had a 20 year old car still in service, then a while later while looking around on Street view for an address I just so happened to see the car again, out of service.

Have any pictures of it in its current state? It’s great that you’re getting it back to its former glory.

yea, it was the grace of God that I got this car. I bid on the car and outbid a junkyard by like $10.00 and there was 2 days left on the bidding. Then I completely forgot that the bidding was ending and I was pissed the hell off because I was sure someone put another bid after me, it was only at $326 when I last bid. So I called by buddy to go online and check who won the car, and that’s when I was relieved and surprised to know it was me. I got it for $326. I do have pics, but there’s no “attachment” option on here to upload them. It only had 112k miles on it when I got it!

Wow! That’s a great price! Looks pretty good for such an old police car. That might just have been the last box Caprice in service in the world.

By the way, you’re more than welcome to join Oppositelock. I’m sure a lot of people would love to see your Caprice. If you want authorship here, just let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

lol it’s actually definitely not the last one in service. Believe it or not, there’s a lot of them still in service everywhere. Here’s a pic from a couple weeks ago in Indianapolis, Indiana. Still in active service. Btw, what’s authorship? or Oppositelock?

Wow, that’s pretty incredible. I haven’t seen one that’s actually in service since probably 2001. This is the closest thing I’ve seen to one still in service.

Oppositelock, this place, is an off-topic car forum. You can poke around here if you’d like and see if you’d be interested. Authorship basically allows you to make posts.

Yea that would be cool to join Oppositelock, and authorship would be nice, I have super cool posts and pics. Lots of police cars lol.

Glad to hear it!

Posting in the linked thread should get you a response in probably 1-2 days! Just introduce yourself and your cars and whatnot.
