Rules: The car had to be sold brand new in 2009.
For the the choice is an obvious one. The 2009 Corvette Zr1. This American missile might not have been the fanciest or best car sold in 2009 but I can’t think of anything that is more perfect. As Clarkson said, “It’s as fast as an Enzo.”

There are too many choices, so I’ll just go with the car we bought new in 2009.
In reality I’d probably go with a Phantom.

Same. Except for one crucial what-if.
In 2009, GM put a 5.3 V8 into it's Colorado/Canyon twins. IF they had offered it with a manual, I'd have that instead.

09 Forester 2.5 XT Limited. Similar to mine right now, but turbo.

A lot of great cars have emerged since then... GT86, new generations of Mustang, the Ford ST hatches... if the S2000 hadn’t still been around, this would be tough for me!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:17 |
|
Well my back hurts so I need a comfy GT and 09 was the year they brought in the 5.0 so a XKR for me.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:18 |

Honda S2000 CR.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:19 |

The last year of the last good looking Subaru Legacy wagon, and the last without too much electronics. I’ll take the diesel version.
Depending on the depreciation, this might actually be my next car!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:20 |

Absolutely the ZR1.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:20 |

Saturn Vue Redline AWD
Yeah, yeah, judge me.

fuck depreciation:

This.

2009 porsche carrera S.
first year of the 997.2, facelifts to the front and rear bumpers and tailights, elimination of the IMS issue from the 997.1 and 996
997’s introduced non-AWD S variants, which added wider rear fenders/wheels/track, but did not included added front weight of the AWD system. plus, extra trunk space without the front diff.
(too bad this wasnt 2010 when the GTS came out)

Couldn’t have bought this new in 09. 2011 was the first and maybe only year. Maybe (2011-2012)

Well, given that the DeLorean revival company was rolling just in time for that, I’ll give the semi-troll answer of “New Texas DeLorean”.

GMC Topkick, because it'll piss everyone off

![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:40 |

wait what!? I didn’t know they did that!! A little truck like that with a V8 would be a hoot!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:44 |
|
They are. The auto really lets it down though. I don’t mind so much that it IS an auto, it’s just WHICH auto they gave it. The really, really cheaped out one. 4L60e. Because it's cheaper to reign in the engine's torque electronically than to just put a 4L65e or better in it.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:53 |
|
Thats a shame. I wonder how hard it would be to swap in a T56. That would be a fun truck then!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 12:54 |

Alfa Romeo Brera S
Had it been available in the US, that is.
My second choice would be the 159 Sportwagon.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:05 |
|
Back then I thought big useless trucks where the best thing ever*. So I guess if we are talking in ‘09 what would you of bought. I would have to go with a final year Hummer H2.
*Definitely not the best thing ever and I have wised up big time since then.

Don't think I haven't considered it :)

IS-F. My parents told me if I left all my friends and went to a magnet school far away they’d get me an IS-F when I can drive. I saw my first one, a red one, driven by a classmate and I fell in love with it.
But I never got that IS-F. And now I’m in Tulsa. Where my parents promised me a E63 Wagon, GS-F or RC-F if I graduate with great grades.
It’s a cycle of promises and disappointment. (And that car wouldn’t be mine more so it’d be my dad’s next car and I’d take his hand me down 2008 Lexus LS, which I’m still very fine with.)
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:13 |

I enjoy depreciation, so a facelifted S65
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:14 |

Was this the final year for it?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:14 |

I did not expect this as an answer
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:15 |

Better than the new M3? I think yes!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:15 |

RS6 Avant? RS6 Avant.
Because V10 Wagon
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:15 |

Underrated compared to the new F-Type. I think these were more beautiful.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:16 |

I bought my 3.8 GT Genesis Coupe in March of 2009.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:16 |

Good pick. Practical yet fun.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:17 |

I’m pretty sure.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:17 |

My parents told me if I went to community college (for free due to grades.) They would buy me anything I wanted under 25k. Always felt like an idiot for not taking them up on that offer.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:17 |

Yes, that was mine after I had the custom exhaust put on it.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:17 |

Alfa makes some beautiful cars.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:18 |
|
I mean if you have to buy a big truck (which is always a valid choice) I would go with an F250 King Ranch.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:18 |
|
Not a bad choice at all. One of the best I have seen yet.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:19 |
|
I wish Honda still made these!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:19 |

I see you found a loophole. I will allow it.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:19 |

Love me a Flex but the Phantom is the obvious choice here. Question is which Phantom?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:20 |
|
Still more beautiful than the F-Type
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:20 |

Might be obnoxious but when the world ends you will be fine with one of those.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:20 |

Nice pick!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:21 |

Also though, gib ZR1
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:21 |

have you graduated? what’s your field of study/interest? and how is the job market currently?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:21 |

I still think this is the best V car made yet
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:21 |
|
That is... interesting
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:22 |

First really cool Korean car in my opinion. Good pick!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:23 |

The funny part is the 4500 pound Merc is almost as quick probably
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:26 |

I graduate undergrad in May. And I am going to go to law school after that. Job market isn’t the best but at 95% of law school grads are employed within the first year. So at least I will hopefully have some income after law school if I can’t get a good job at a firm. (Although the dream is to open my own firm.)
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:31 |

I’m more than grateful that my parents have the means to send me through college but I made the mistake of picking Petroleum Engineering (since they said we’d have an over $100k salary out of college in 2012.)
What they didn’t account for was oil now less than half the 2012 price per barrel and now no one can even find an internship.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:33 |
|
Sedan EWB for being driven in, Drophead Coupe for driving.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:36 |
|
Controversial, but I would get a GL450.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:41 |
|
Well shit. I am sure that will come around. If there is one thing they aren’t making more of it is oil
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:42 |
|
I have heard worse
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:42 |
|
think of it like this... likely any car you bought with that 25k 4 years ago will be worth less than it was then. cars are depreciating assets, but your diploma can/should be an appreciating asset.
without your current undergraduate degree, you likely wouldnt have been in the same position to apply to/be accepted to/matriculate to the law school you will be attending. youre not an idiot. :)
unless you happened to pick up an air cooled 911 with that 25k. (ha!)
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:49 |

Had my first taste of the track in one of these. Never been the same since.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:52 |

Yeah I know. I probably made the responsible move for my future. But it sure would be nice to be driving around in a C5 Z06 right now!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:52 |

Same experience for me only it was a Zr1 not a CTS-V
![]() 11/09/2015 at 13:54 |

You are a lucky man.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:04 |

2010 Range Rover Sport.. Was released in 2009, so... acceptable?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:06 |

I’ve made my choice
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:10 |
|
I will allow it. Interesting choice
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:11 |
|
I feel the Z06 is better balanced than the Zr1 and is still silly fast. Have you ever done an Oppo review of it?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:20 |
|
Yeah, lots more torque. I think it's closer to 5000 lbs though...
![]() 11/09/2015 at 14:36 |
|
•edit• I read 1999, not 2009.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:02 |
|
I can see that. It is a fitting car for Norway though.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:02 |
|
YES OMG SO MUCH YES BUT ONLY IF COMBI
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:26 |
|
Yeah, the Z06 is way too much car for me. I’d kill myself with a ZR1.
Haven’t done a review. I have a lot of cars. If I review one, I’ll have to do em all lol.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:32 |
|
I would have picked the combi now, but in 2009 I would have picked the sedan, and in 2009 I really would have been waiting for the new 9-5 Combi.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:34 |
|
I bet even if it too much it is still a blast to drive anyway.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 15:55 |
|
Oh hell yes. It’s terrifying in the best way.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 16:13 |

My parents have promised that if I get a full scholarship to college they’ll buy me a car worth the same as my first year’s tuition as my graduation present :)
![]() 11/09/2015 at 16:13 |
|
I’d put a deposit on one of these then end up really disapointed.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 16:16 |
|
ZR1 because I fucking hate tires. Those vulcanized rubbery bastards. Who do they think they are hu? Get the fuck off my wheels goddammit!!!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 16:25 |
|
Most obvious answer ever. Haha.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 16:42 |

997.2 Carrera 4S w/PDK SportChrono
Also the same car I’d buy in 2016 except for less $.

Don’t forget PDK...with buttons!

2009 Merc E63 AMG for me please!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 18:02 |

Carrera 4s. Why? Because sexy posterior, awesome staggered wheels, all wheel drive and general amazingness.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 18:32 |

Coincidentally enough my truck is a 2009, so that.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 19:09 |

Don’t even get me started on how mad I am that Pontiac didn’t make this
![]() 11/09/2015 at 19:12 |

Might be my favorite Porsche!
![]() 11/09/2015 at 19:20 |

Lamborghini Reventon and Tesla Stock
![]() 11/09/2015 at 19:47 |
|
Not a bad pick. But with so many other options it is an interesting one
![]() 11/09/2015 at 20:07 |
|
So can I just assume you will always pick a 911 for this game?
![]() 11/09/2015 at 20:13 |
|
Yes.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 20:19 |
|
Hahaha not a bad pick at all
![]() 11/09/2015 at 21:06 |
|
Have these cars depreciated?
Brand new: $50k
Used today: $50k and up, I think
![]() 11/09/2015 at 21:08 |
|
Small enough for towns/parking lots as for backcountry roads but can also seat 4 people, lots of power, NA inline six, stick shift, sophisticatd suspension and goes also for decent money as used car. Actually I would buy that if I would need a new ride by now.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 21:52 |
|
S2000 CR. Or a 328i Wagon with a 6-speed.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 22:01 |

Oh the things I’d do to get a Turdbalt SS Sedan
![]() 11/09/2015 at 22:07 |

I didn’t know they made the Cobalt SS as a sedan
