But that’s okay! As the wise Bob Ross once said, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents.

Kinja'd!!!

We can thank Bob Ross for convincing me to press on in my endeavor. Soon the world will be one 1977 Honda Civic 1200 better.

Yes, it is a 1200. But no matter, that just makes it more jalop right? More smaller! More simpler! Only the bare necessities. None of that fancy “I don’t need a catalytic converter” attitude. Four gears, Four horsepower. Because you only need one per cylinder, any more would be unnecessary. Also steelies. So I’ll keep it.

This is my car! What do you guys think? I thought for $300 dollars I was doing the world a favor by saving the cute little machine and keeping it going. I also model in one, I think I might have a future in it, what do you think? The fact that you had to open the gas cap with a special key was dumbfounding to me.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I don’t have any other good angles of the car. I took these ones with my phone. The good ones from my camera I have to transfer over to a new card or something so I can get them on here but when I do I’ll post them. I have driven it 2.1 miles since I got it. Without brakes, or tabs, or a radiator... But it drove! I’m going back to the parts place this week to return the CVCC radiator I bought thinking it was a CVCC. I’ll have them find me a 1200 one and get that and the thermostat installed. An update will happen on whether that fixes the overheating problem. If it doesn’t it’s on to head gasket and probably getting the head machine leveled down, timing belt stuff, then choke and carb stuff, then brakes, then wheel bearings. I’m going to finish it off with a Type R badge just for fun:)

I’m sure hundreds of mystery problems will show up along the way and I’ll have no money come spring to insure the damn thing, but I’m super excited to get it going and out on the streets again. April C&C will be a good one!

Thanks again for following. If you have any input on where to find parts or stories leave them in comments. Thanks guys!

That might be the best condition $300 car I’ve ever seen. Careful though, 50hp is a lot to deal with all at once

I think it's kinda cool. I like the idea of driving something different and quirky. But keep a rational eye on it. If it starts looking like a money pit for parts, etc., then don't be too emotional to drop it. Even if you were to eat the $300, that wouldn't be so bad compared to racking up three times that amount working on it and still not having a reliable, safe car to drive. Good luck!

This might be the best thing ever on this site ... restore it bit-by-bit, and drive it forever.

I know right? Pre 1990 Japanese cars are unheard of up here in Minny and yet here is one.

Wait a minute, Minnesota?!? It must have spent its life elsewhere, don’t you guys use salt?

Oh, and the gas cap lock is, as you can probably guess, to prevent people from siphoning your gas. Which was a possibility in those days.

This is some of the best $300 ever spent around here, I’d say.

I wasn’t surprised to see it has no pass. side mirror. That was an option on cheap cars well into the 1980’s. But I also see the driver’s side is missing.

I have a feeling the mismatched rad is the issue, even though that doesn’t make much sense since it was a bigger rad....just a feeling, though. Hopefully that’s it but even if it isn’t, that’s gotta be a simple motor to work on. Parts, though...

Parts is whats gonna drive you nuts, I suspect. Can’t exactly find these in scrapyards. But that’s par for the course for owning a classic car.

I think you’ll also find that, if well tuned, that motor and that chassis will get you pretty solid MPG even today.

You should totally put a Type-R badge on it.

That looks lovely! While the CVCC engine is fascinating from an engineering standpoint, I could imagine that the additional complexity could have been a headache.

I didn’t make it to any C&Cs this year, but next Spring, I’ll have something interesting to show , so I’ll have to keep an eye out for it!

There are a fleet of CVCC/Civics that come down from BC every year for some of the Seattle area car shows. Some of the best looking/restored/restomodded J-Tin I’ve ever seen.

Nice purchase!!!
