They drive a New Beetle. Clearly they have no shame.

The Chevy puts out less NOx than the Beetle.

Chevy should seriously consider offering this badge/grill as an OEM option.

Everyone I know who drives a huge truck thinks VW is awesome for 1) tricking the government, and 2) tricking the government to give the customer more horsepower.

I seriously wonder about political comic artists sometimes.

I don’t think they were targeting large truck owners, I think it was directed at the U.S. Gov’t for being somewhat hypocritical from their perspective - shaming/fining VW while not exactly being the lowest emitter of pollution in the world.

The difference is trucks have less restrictive emissions standards because they are meant to be work vehicles, that hauls things around. Of coarse a truck that needs to be able to haul 8000-12000 pounds of cargo is going to emit more. But a compact car like a Jetta or Bettle doesn’t haul large loads, and is meant to be a personal vehicle, so it’s held to a higher standard.

The problem is a whole lot of people that drive those large vehicles could get buy driving a little compact car 99.9% of the time.

The greatest punishment for VW will not come from the US; it will come from the EU. Millions of cheating diesels were sold there vs. only 500k or so for the US.

Private owners tampering with their trucks without the endorsement of the manufacturer is a bit different than the world’s (now second) largest automaker intentionally deceiving national governments and regulatory agencies around the world in an effort to save money on production and R&D costs.

That last part is spot on, but it still doesn’t make it right. The law hasn’t been updated to counteract this because the auto makers throw a huge fit every time it comes up saying that it would cost them too much profit to start complying.

This height differential is an accurate representation of sitting in traffic in Midwestern US whilst driving an NA Miata.
