190 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated 2.3l four cylinder in 1991...that’s absurd.
0-60 was dispatched in 7 seconds.
IT WAS BUILT AS A HOMOLOGATION SPECIAL.

36hp out of a naturally aspirated 0.36L two cylinder in 1972... THAT’s absurd.
IT WAS BUILT AS A SHITTY COMMUTER CAR.

Not enough air intake vents.
Fixed!

That’s pretty crazy, only 300cc larger and 50hp more than a contemporary NA SR20

For some stupid reason I really want that in my garage. But with a Buick ass, feet and face.

Crazy! But it was FWD, right?

The previous decade, they couldn’t even get that out of a V8!

Even better was the Achieva SCX, which was soooooo close to being called a 442 as well
And remember, this was before the H22 existed, and got better fuel economy than the H22. Timing chain failures do suck, though.

what do you mean “but?”
It still cleaned house while racing.

For one or two model years, I recall the complete name of it being the Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais International Series Quad 442.
Not sure if that was only in Canada... but I thought it was stupid.
It told me that the brand leadership at Oldsmobile was weak and the marketing people Olds was using didn’t know what they were doing.

It was called the International Series because it was used to homologate itself into IMSA’s International Sedan Series.

That engine behind the driver seat of this:
for the ultimate Malaise Murderwagon. Or ... you know... a mildly interesting Craigslist post.

GM still had occasional flashes of brilliance in that period. Even though Roger Smith and the financial staff were in control of the corporation, they still employed some of the best engineers in the world, and once in a rare while, they would manage to work something through.
This was also the period when GM was toying with the idea of turning Oldsmobile into a Euro-style premium sports brand, before they bought into Saab and shifted their attention that way.
The Touring Sedan is another FWD Olds from the period that I wouldn’t kick out of bed.

What’s absurd is that having the engineering know-how to produce world-class designs, the fucks at GM continued to push bloated, wire-hubcap and padded landau roof floata-crapcans until the shit hit the fan and they almost became history.

I mean I want one of those big ass barges and I wanna put it on air and just cruise...cos they’re damn good at it.
