The Toyota 4Runner sells well despite being a six year old design on an 11 year old platform. Part of it is its reputation for rugged durability. It’s not uncommon to find examples that have over 1/4 million miles without any major issue. But part of it must be the little touches that Toyota adds. Like this:
It’s a sliding, locking shelf with a 200-kg rated capacity. That’s 440 pounds. It certainly would make loading heavy items in the rear much easier.
When I go to pick up my 450-pound friend with the 95-pound wheelchair I wouldn't have to scratch the hell out of the bumper, headliner, and rear cargo area like when I take the Kia.

LOOK AT THE BEIGE.
not a bad car to be honest, it was one of these or a Suburban, V6 Mustang, Tourneo Connect, or a Sentra.

That’s great and all, but I’ll keep my tailgate. That poor thing has seen more weight than a lot of diesel trucks will in their pampered, lifted life. Doing all this while holding the back window, I might add.
