Pretty self explanatory.
I’m still sitting around with this damn broken leg, losing my mind and playing videogames. I know we’ve got a decent amount of gamers on Oppo, so what are your favorite games, Opponauts?
I’ve been on a solid Dark Souls II binge for a couple of weeks, and I’m not ready to replay my back catalog of favorite games yet (Fourza, Fallout: New Vegas & Fallout 3, Skyrim, Oblivion, Dark Souls, Fable 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, GTA 5, Civilization IV, Spore) so I’d appreciate some recommendations.
I’ve got an Xbox 360 and a shit-tier PC, but I’m curious as to everyone’s favorite games regardless of platform.
PS - I’ll probably be picking up Mass Effect 3 since I never got around to finishing that trilogy.

Shooters are usually what I play when I’m bored, usually Battlefield or Destiny, ocassionally GTA V. That said I there are some games that I will savor because I could never get bored with them. The Metroid Prime series, Resident Evil 4 (along with other survival horror games), the Mass Effect series, Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, Timesplitters, Mortal Kombat 9, LA Noire, a couple others that escape me at the moment. So, yeah, I enjoy lots of games, been doing it for 13 years now and I won't ever stop.

The Last of Us by far and away my favorite game and it’s not even close. It’s crushingly depressing and emotionally exhausting (I actually felt tired after every session just because of how stressful the gameplay and plot was) but at the same time it’s an absolute masterpiece of storytelling that (imo) is worth buying a used PS3 (or just borrowing from a friend) just to experience. I bought both a PS3 and 4 just to play TLoU and its remastered version, and I’m not sorry I did. I cannot recommend it enough, The Last of Us is utterly brilliant.
Red Dead Redemption is another fantastic game; great story, great gameplay, beautiful world, and it’s on the 360 so you can actually play it. Prior to TLoU it was my favorite game and it still holds up well even five years on.
Mass Effect 3 is the best Mass Effect game in terms of both game mechanics and plot and while the ending kinda sucks it’s not near bad enough to ruin the game/series like idiots on the Internet think it did. It’s in the top 5 of my favorite games and I’d definitely recommend finishing it to complete the series, 3 sends the story out on a high note.
The Witcher 3 is my final recommendation. It’s like Skyrim with a coherent, immersive story and even denser world (someone did the math and found the world map was 1.5x the size of Skyrim) full of interesting quests and places that you can spend hundreds of hours in and never grow tired of; my first playthrough took me literally all summer (200+ gameplay hours) and I still had unfinished missions and undiscovered locations. It’s the current benchmark for the 8th generation of consoles and with good reason: it’s a fantastic game.

Have you played the Left Behind DLC of The Last of Us? If not I highly recommend it, it’s just as good as the main game and explains so much of Ellie’s motivation and backstory that it changes how you look at the original campaign.

Not yet!!! and it’s terribly annoying!
I got banned from the PSN due to having a CFW (eventhough I own most of my games, TLOU included) and therefore I will probably have to resort to downloading it instead of buying it :(
![]() 11/07/2015 at 04:55 |
|
Well that sucks man, can you like reinstall the original firmware and call Sony and ask them to lift your ban? Seems kinda harsh to ban you entirely.
![]() 11/07/2015 at 05:14 |

The do it automatically when you install a CFW... I don’t really care in the first place as I don’t even play online on PS3 so...

After seeing your posts I’m tempted to CFW my phat ps3 if at all possible as I haven’t been on it in ages and don’t care for online play on it, got any guides on how to do it?

You need to have a 3.55 or earlier firmware installed... Firmwares on PS3 are not easily downgradeable. To downgrade it is a mess and requires soldering on your motherboard.

I’ve not been on it for ages so fingers crossed I have 3.55 or less otherwise I wont bother

3.55 or less will be on it if you have not updated it since late 2010 or so... If you have bought and installed games that came out in 2011 or after, then you most likely have updated your firmware past 3.55 already.
![]() 11/07/2015 at 08:16 |

damn, I’m past 3.55 then :(
![]() 11/07/2015 at 08:18 |

Yeah it is the case for most people indeed... 3.55 PS3 are getting rarer and rarer. You can still find some for sale.
I have limited edition 3.55 Cloud Black Japanese PS3 for sale if you want... But it’s expensive as I want a minimum of 350$ for it.

postage + import wouldn’t be worth it :( also mine is the original 60gb with hardware ps2 emulation

Halo, Civ and the Bethesda RPGs are probably what I spend most of my gaming time on which is about cars.

Megaman Legends 1 & 2, The Legend of Zelda, Mass Effect Trilogy, Contra, Sonic 2, Earthworm Jim, Red Dead Redemption and a crap ton more I can’t think of. Definitely play ME3. That’s the only modern series I’ve played more than once.
![]() 11/07/2015 at 08:51 |

Yeah Brits have it hard with import taxes... I hsve a couple of 60gb also, just make sure notto fry the motherboard on these as it was noticeably more fragile than later gens. (YLOD)

Non-racing games I’ve played recently... that would be Civilization V and Battlefield 3 for the most part.
I’ve been playing through the Director’s Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution as well. Punching people in the face has never been more satisfying...
![]() 11/07/2015 at 09:43 |

The original Deus Ex. Or Trespasser (the Jurassic Park game that came out a very long time ago).
![]() 11/07/2015 at 10:14 |

Well if you do play Civilization exclusively, your leg will heal and you’d still be playing through that game. :P
I used play racing, shooting, RPG, adventure games.

Mass effect 3 is awesome. I would suggest Destiny, as it’s fun hanging out with other people doing small raids.
I would also suggest Horizon 2.
There are some neat games on the arcade, like Child of Light, Limbo and Costume Quest.
Also, The Walking Dead (on Xbox) is another gut puncher of a game.

Metroid Prime trilogy, Rogue Squadron trilogy, Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion, Portal 2.

Oh, I gotta break out Portal 2 again. That game was a blast.

Cool, I’ll definitely pick up ME3 then. Last of Us sounds good too.

Yeah, I’ve got Human Revolution, that was fun.

Oh yeah, Borderlands is a good one. I used to love the Halo games, but I couldn’t really get into 4. I might have to pick up another copy of Reach though.

The Talos Principle, especially the Road to Gehenna expansion.
The Stanley Parable.
One Finger Death Punch, to name a few.

No One Lives Forever 2. The game is styled like and plays as a 60’s spy show and its got some of the single fucking best dialogue writing ever. Seriously, there’s no other way to understand what I’m trying to say unless you can find the game and try it yourself.
![]() 11/07/2015 at 17:25 |

Also if you want to play the last of us, tbh id recommend the telltales walking dead series instead.

4 wasnt bad. 5 is pretty good too. its less about the game play now then it is the story, and the story is fan-fucking-tastic.

I’ve got 4. I guess I’ll have to replay it, but I think I was just OD’d on Halo when it came out, that was all I played back then. I’m gonna have to get an XBone for Fallout 4, so I guess I’ll pick up Halo 5 then too.
