Landing without touching the ground is a special art.
I seem to recall one of the earliest scenes of Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is a spectacularly grim flight into the tree line in failure that the German officers overseeing then solemnly remove their helmets for.
Anyway, I found the three other pics looking for a clip of that scene.

That biplane came to grief after trying to attack a Zeppelin somewhere over France. I had a friend who was a pilot for Gemini Air Cargo before he moved to US Air. I wonder if that was his plane. I don’t think Gemini exists any more. I saw a couple of their old DC-10-30Fs parked in a boneyard in Roswell, NM a few years ago.
