Does anyone here have any experience with Autel/HF code readers?

The Sienna threw a code, and I've always wanted a code reader. Does anyone have experience with Autel/Harbor Freight code readers, specifically on mid 2000s Toyota and/or Lexus products? Sports 800s for your time.

I’ve got an Autel for my GTI. I don’t use it often (I seem to own the only MkIV VW that isn’t throwing codes left and right), but it hasn’t let me down yet.

I have a midrange Autel I bought on Amazon back when I had my Bonneville. It works perfectly fine for pulling codes.

Here’s the thing: If you run into a lot of manufacturer-specific codes that you can’t read with a cheap OBD2 reader, you won’t be able to read them with any OBD2 reader unless it has the software for that manufacturer. The Autel will be just as good as any other unless you pony up for Tech2, VAGCOM, or whatever the manufacturer-specific protocol/diagnostic system is. For Toyota, I highly doubt you’re going to need anything like that just for checking a CEL, even if the OBD system in the car is advanced enough to have a bunch of locked features.

Maybe everyone else is modding their MKIV VWs. I had an aftermarket intake on mine for a while, it caused engine knock from too much air and fuel in the engine. I went back to stock and the only other code I ever got was that my cat. or O2 sensor dead or which I ignored.

Every once in a while I get the secondary air injection code, but even with a catback and modified airbox it seems to just keep purring happily along.

It’s had plenty of other problems, but not CELs!
