Under rated? No...I don’t this so. It was good and it has a helluva following.

I’ll be that guy.

The movie was terrible compared to the comics. Of course, the comics are literally the gold standard when it comes to limited series/ short run stories in comic / graphic novel form.

But I can’t watch the movie without wishing it had the complexity and depth of the comics.

I really appreciated the movie for what it was. It was entertaining, it was true to the story. It added some flash and shined it up to make it modern, and even polished over some of the weaknesses of the original.

But somewhere around my 6th or 7th re-reading of the series, I started picking apart the story, and looking specifically at the undertones, backstory, and inherent mysteries of the way it was presented. And I grew up suggesting to everyone around me that they read it. I have lost more copies of the collected V For Vendetta than I have any other book, because people didn’t return them when I loaned it out.

The fact that the movie lacked so much of what made the story truly enjoyable to return to, time and time again, left me feeling like it was just a bit too hollywood. I liked the movie, but I was unable to love it, because my expectations were WAY too high.

Ideally, at some point in the future, HBO, or some other serial producer of content, will allow this to be a 12 part, 12 hour , miniseries. And if done right, will be fucking epic .

V is like the 1st Matrix for me, I can keep watching it and love every minute.

But yes, a true mini series would be amazing.

Must. Resist. Matrix. Comparison.

(can’t resist, sorry)

For me, the movie is kind of like the two Matrix sequels, compared to the book’s standing as the first movie.
