Does this picture elicit any feelings from you?

shows how oversized American vehicles have become.

Shows how Squee but angry the Ami is.

haha, nice
Most likely bringing one back to Japan at the end of the month :)

Ami or RAM? Or a hybrid RAmi?
![]() 11/05/2015 at 05:53 |
|
Ami of course :)
I wouldn’t touch a Dodge Ram with a stick haha
![]() 11/05/2015 at 05:56 |

Not the freedom to park, though, seeing how that’s likely in Belgium, where the RAM’s size should be but a gigantic drawback. ;)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 05:57 |

There are no drawbacks to FREEDOM™ .
![]() 11/05/2015 at 06:34 |

Time hasn’t dulled the ugliness of the Ami.
The pick up neither.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 06:36 |

Or the Netherlands, given the plates on the Ami.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 06:58 |

Seems like a good paring. When the little classic breaks down you can just bring it home in your truck’s bed.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:18 |

Haha Iron Man
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:24 |

Indeed.
I hope the Ami is able to tow the pickup, just in case.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:26 |

Oddly enough, I’d think that the man Stark would prefer the Ami.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:36 |

Downhill, if all wheels on the Ram move freely. ;)

I don’t quite know why, especially since the Ami has double lamps, a different origin etc, but the first thing that jumped into my head when I saw its face was this character.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:39 |

I also imagine the Ram being a pain in a geographically tighter environment and also traffic.
Would you touch a Ram with a stick with a stick?
Make sure oppo gets to witness your new arrival come time. :D
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:42 |

Indeed. Guessing from the lettering on the hotel/restaurant door, I’d wager NL now, too.
Merk/model: CITROEN AMI 6 GRAND LUXE

Hey, it’s called grand luxe, so it’s got to be awesome ...
right?

Meh some people drive Hummer here, so a Dodge Ram would be fine...
And yes I’d be curious to try a Manual Ram lol... I’m pretty sure it would still suck though :)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:46 |

This a thousand times. Cars grow pretty much everywhere, but they seem to grow even more in the States. Do Americans grow taller at the same speed, I wonder?
Subjectively, if the Ami counts as “1 box”, the Ram sure feels like it could occupy the space of 8 of those fig. boxes. Almost twice as wide, almost twice as tall, probably 1.5-2 times the length. Like I said, subjectively.
On the upside, though, you can’t scratch your Ram’s side mirrors on the Ami, ‘cause they’re that high up. Yay!

Regarding the manual transmission Ram, I’d be curious despite sharing the expectation. Maybe controlling such a boat by way of an MT feels oddly nice, like paddling along in a huge canoe!
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:53 |
|
haha, could be... If I want something big, that can tow stuff, with a manual transmission, I’ll stick a Land Rover Defender though...
Will probably bring one back to Japan at the end of the month too btw :)

Murica

That’s quite sad
![]() 11/05/2015 at 07:56 |

Originally meant to tag this ‘Murica, but then I wondered if there was an accepted spelling for this.

I’ve seen it ‘Murica and ‘Merica we here pretty much accept both

What is? Not wanting to touch a shitty pick up truc with a stick??
I lie actually.. I did drive one a couple of times... And hated every bit of it of course :)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 08:16 |

Shitty? The new ones have more leather than an S Class, get better gas mileage and could tow your rx-7 after it blows an apex seal. Not to mention after using it for 10 years the depreciation won’t be anywhere near as bad as what you’d find with a luxury car of the same price
![]() 11/05/2015 at 08:23 |
|
Manual diesel Ram's are pretty fun, because they have stiffer suspension and more power. Gas powered V6 Ram manuals are not, because they are rolly messes with not a lot of power.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 08:30 |
|
Well the RX7 is 2100lbs so yes I hope it can tow it lol... I mean, my own Rx7 could town another RX7 so...
The one I drove was a 2008 Ram and it sucked ass... The interior made me feel like I was in my 1996 Mustang all over again!! And that says a lot. Plastic everywhere!
Glad to see they put leather in it now, it still doesn’t make the car anymore pleasant to drive. What a pig! Sure it can tow, but accelerate?? Meh.... It reminded me of my shitty mustang again...
![]() 11/05/2015 at 08:41 |

How much more I like the look of the Ami with quad round sealed-beams.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 08:42 |

Did not think it was that small
![]() 11/05/2015 at 09:04 |

There’s one unusual feature about this Dutch registered Ami. What is it?
![]() 11/05/2015 at 09:09 |
|
Between the 5.7L Hemi and the 8 speed Auto and coil over suspension all around it’ll out perform your rx-7. The ram 1500 Laramie is basically an American s class but even more versatile
![]() 11/05/2015 at 09:14 |
|
huh? What do you mena by “outperform”???
![]() 11/05/2015 at 09:19 |
|
Damn, I just realized you compared a RAM to an S-class lol
![]() 11/05/2015 at 10:04 |

It just continues my lust for a Ram Sport.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 10:27 |

The steering wheel is on the correct side :)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 10:37 |

...is the right answer
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:38 |
|
Well, Im not a “truck guy” although the RAM is my favorite of the “big three” trucks in North America.
That being said, that picture just makes me want an Ami more! :)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:51 |
|
Does it do anything sportier than the normal Ram? Not trolling, by the way, I wonder how much Sport you engineer into a relatively big pickup. That said, I’ve seen Cayennes feel positively light on their feet at ~2 tons.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:51 |
|
That’s what ... nvm. :(
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:52 |

Just the right touch of Edsel. ;)
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:55 |

See, now I’ve even learned something on the internet. Thanks.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:56 |
|
This is very accurate.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 11:58 |
|
That’ll just make for one more reason to be jealous then. ;)
Wait ... I actually like it when people keep older cars in shape and/or on the road. Preferably both with a bit more focus on the latter.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 13:17 |
|
Just an appearance package mostly. Still, 395 horsepower Hemi and those badass looks.
![]() 11/05/2015 at 15:10 |
|
I’ve never seen one in person so I don’t know how big they are. From looking at pictures and watching videos I could tell they are small, I just did not know they are THAT small
![]() 11/06/2015 at 07:37 |
|
I’ll happily agree. Most of that Citroën is below the top of the Ram’s tire. I’d be curious to see something subjectively small, like a ND Miata, for reference.

This was basically the exact scene when we rented a Dodge Ram and parked it next to the *shudders* Saturn SL1 we had at the time. I think it was the most hilarious moment we had with that Saturn...
Also, I found a bigger version of your photo!
![]() 11/22/2015 at 17:10 |
|
This must be a very unamerican notion, but I still can’t wrap my head around why people driving around on their own might need such a fortress of a car. ;)
I was a bit cheap, ‘cause I didn’t feel like editing out the watermark, so I just ran with the picture they showed earlier.
![]() 11/22/2015 at 17:34 |
|
Np lol, I’d have preferred a watermark-free version as well!
Allow me if I may to answer your question...
Driving Neuschwanstein Castle on wheels is kinda fun – it’s a cheap way to feel powerful (engine, height over traffic, abundant space, etc) and there’s enough space in North American cities to accommodate them.
Basically, people buy them because they can – few need the towing capacity that they are unbeatable at. Midsize SUVs (i.e. XC90, X5, that sort of thing) offer the same kind of interior room (save for the extra width between the seats) but are vastly more practical.
![]() 11/22/2015 at 22:11 |
|
Yup.
![]() 11/23/2015 at 08:57 |
|
The potential driving distances might have to do something with it, too; larger cars tend to fare better at hauling ass over hundreds and hundreds of miles.
With VW selling the Amarok, people have picked up driving black pickups even in Germany, so there must be something to it!
![]() 11/24/2015 at 01:43 |
|
True, though a nice midsizer can eat those hundreds of miles in the same way (I’ve tried both)... I’d wager the root cause is something along these lines:
