Americans bring the strangest things over here to drive. So...so much beige.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:10 |

With all the great stuff in Europe, this is puzzling to me as well.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:11 |

It’s not beige, it’s champagne .
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:15 |

It’s effectively a Jaguar, but sillier. Can’t think why it’d be useful in any way to have there.

Yeah, in the same garage were three M3s, a 911, C7 Vette and a worked over E30 Touring. And then this.

Doesn't scream Champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:18 |

It certainly is unique. I'll bet Europeans love it, they love all Americana.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:19 |

I can’t imagine there is much like it over there, and it’s got a neato Jag engine as well.

“ooh ja das zigs!!!”

Unpopular opinion time, I actually liked the relaunched thunderbird.

One of my favorite pictures on Wikipedia is a four-door ‘78 Lincoln Town Car Cartier Edition convertible conversion. It’s taken at a car meet in Germany.
This man is #winning.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:22 |

Welp, it will stand out in the pool of hatchbacks
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:22 |

Honestly, I think it’s kind of bad-ass. Yes it’s a boring American luxo-wagon wanna be, though it’s unique. It’s something most people can’t have over there even if it is beige. Think of all the Americans buying bland JDM or Euro cars and importing them instead of buying something local.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:23 |
|
Those cars could have been great with just a few changes.....starting with a stick.....so much lost potential.....
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:28 |

There’s plenty of great drop tops in Europe, this is something not seen everyday for sure but the Beige-ness doesn’t do the car any favors.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:30 |

I don’t think beige has done any car any favors ever.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:30 |

Whilst the general population groans at the bog standard Opel.....lol
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:30 |

It is however a lot better than the Cavaliers, Trans Sports and LeBarons a surprising amount of people brought over.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:32 |

A true land yacht. This car would certainly be at home there. The love for American iron runs deep.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:33 |

That it does, in a garage with a few M3s, a 911 and some other notables this is the only picture I snapped.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:33 |

Meh I like those. Good cruiser not a sports car just like the original tbird. I wish I would have been stationed in Germany I would have so brought my 95 Cobra and done a sad slow lap of the ‘ring.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:35 |
|
A stick maybe, but the T-bird wasn't really a throw-down sports car like the Mustang. The auto was suiting for what they were going for but that never caught on in the whole retro phase.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:40 |
|
Transsports and LeBarons weren’t brought over by people, they were sold by dealerships.

The ‘59 I got from Jarod Rose and will be fixing up is the same size. Pure wonderful ridiculousness.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:41 |

Yeah. One of my neighbors has been trying to sell theirs for a while now.

Do you need naval clearance for that boat, skipper?

Now FCA rebrands their wares as Lancias....how things have changed.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 12:59 |

No need for a slow lap, I have a buddy who ran 8:20s with his ‘Stang (Terminator rear-end swap) and semi slicks.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:00 |

Ja genau
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:13 |

I think most things are better than those three vehicles.

When a buddy of mine was in the army he had a brand new LeBaron delivered in Germany because he was a die-hard Mopar guy. I met him a few years later and got him hooked on BMWs. He was kicking himself after finding out that he could have been driving cheap BMWs all those years...
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:22 |

It was a “different” design from that era, not sure it’s a beige design. The color does look beige though.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:23 |

Very cool! Mine has soft springs and qusi-big a littles drag radials (315s out back 225s up front)
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:25 |
|
But why were they sold by dealerships?
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:29 |

Haha, when I lived in Stuttgart a few years ago I saw a guy with a PRISTINE LeBaron and the third best comb-over ever. Much like this T-bird it certainly stood out amongst the brand new Mercs and Porsches all around.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:32 |
|
Good question. I bet the few people that bought them did so because the cars were so
different
. Many people like conformity, others want to stand out.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:32 |
|
To make money?
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:38 |

Holy shit you bought his Lincoln?! I'm so out of the loop, I didn't know.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:41 |
|
Well, he made an “I’ve sold it” post, but I have yet to put together a formal “I’ve bought it” post.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 13:49 |
|
Where you at in Germany?
![]() 11/04/2015 at 14:16 |
|
If you want to stand out, why not:
1. buy a Multipla
2. import something ridiculous from Japan
3. Paint your car bright pink with some brown accents
All of them are better options than a 90s GM/ Chrysler product.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 14:21 |
|
Agreed, but we can’t all have the same taste.
![]() 11/04/2015 at 14:35 |

Picture it as a 2-door S-Type convertible and it may make more sense.
That looks like gold or champagne metallic, which 'Muricans pronounce "sham-pag-nee".
![]() 11/04/2015 at 14:50 |
|
Best description I’ve heard for this car.
Cham-pag-nee is classy as hell. But my mind still says beige.

you guys are idiots those things are awesome...looking.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere, are you drunk?

I thought about rebadging an Opel Omega as Catera, but that’d be stupid, wouldn’t it?
People nonthe less stick Vauxhall grilles to it. To LHD cars...
Besides, the Omega’s a great car. Even cheap now.

to drive something with more character than a gray A4.
