Hello fellow Opponauts,
Not too long ago I ordered a Curt tow hitch for my new Sentra, in order to utilize my Swagman hitch-mounted bike rack that I have used with previous vehicles.
Well, I received it as well as the instructions, and realized that despite my disease-addled brain reading (or probably just dreaming) that the website said no drilling was required, sure enough, the instructions state the use of a die grinder is necessary to enlarge the existing holes in the frame.
Unfortunately, in my current accomodations, I don’t have access to power tools, nor do I have anywhere to put them, and I’m not sure how much I trust myself to drill into my 2 1/2 month old car’s chassis.
I’m wondering where I can get this hitch installed, for a cost of course, because the trunk-mounted bike rack that isn’t secure and damages paint, as well as putting the bike inside the car with the seats folded down, is getting really old.
The car isn’t rated to tow (even though it’s a 6-speed, not a CVT) so I doubt a Nissan dealer would do it.
Thanks guys & gals.

Uh...any mechanic shop can install a tow hitch. Either call around to get a price or go down in person.

Should be good as long as your load is under 1000 pounds.

Swagman bike rack is the best! Any UHaul should be able to install your hitch.

Even though its not a Uhaul brand hitch?
And yeah, I have had mine for a while and absolutely love it. Secure, easy, and don’t have to worry about damaging my paint/interior

Not sure, just give them a ring. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to take your money.
My favorite part about the rack is that after you just rode for a bunch of hours you just put it right on the back. The last thing I want to do is put my 30 pound bike awkwardly on top of my car or mess with straps when I’m tired.

Are there tow hitches that do not require drilling or welding? I would much prefer a hitch mounted bike rack for my Miata plus it would be good for a tire trailer in the future too. But I have put it off due to the drilling requirement too. Do they make ones that you just clamp on somehow?

I don’t think so, the reason I didn’t have to drill for my Fusion or S80 is because it just bolted into factory holes in the chassis. I doubt they make any that clamp on.

There are trailer and hitch shops around. Do a google search in your area. If you happen to be in the Chicagoland area, I recommend Sub Trailer Hitch . They do great work and very reasonable prices.

That’s what I figured, I still have to research how others have done it. I’m sure I’ll run across another miata with one too

Unfortunately I’m in Florida, thank you though.
