Doesn’t it bother you guys that you have to fly across an ocean to watch your teams play? First at Wembley, now Twickenham and soon to be Tottenham. I get that there are loads of Americans in London but I’m pretty sure there are more Americans in America. Are these legit matches or friendlies/exhibitions that don’t matter?

Nope, they count towards the official win-loss record of the teams.

Frankly, I don’t really care as I don’t follow football, but I can’t imagine why the NFL thinks UK or the rest of Europe gives a shit about our sport.

Yep, I don’t get it at all. Last I checked, no one in the U.S. was clamoring for the NFL to play games anywhere but the U.S., but the NFL keeps doing it.

They’re regular season games...but latest was the Chiefs vs. the Lions. Yawn...no one cares about their games here or there.

...which makes playing games on the other side of the Atlantic even stranger.

NFL thinks that they can get folks all over the globe. There used to be a Europe American football league

The point is to make you watch them. Most everybody in the US prefers the TV experience, as we are busy tracking fantasy stats, catching every score on Red Zone, and downing buckets of beer at less than ridiculous prices.

The shield is expanding its global brand. Right down your throat, whether you like it or not.

Get use to “The London Jaguars”.

The whole idea is to make the sport more accessible to British and European people to hopefully encourage them to attend and take in the atmosphere of the game to create a new fan base outside of North America. Leading to larger viewing audiences, merchandise sales and maybe even encourage a British league of U.S. hand egg into the U.K.

I get why. The FA wanted to do a similar thing but every football fan threatened to burn Wembley to the ground. I’m just surprised that no one seems to mind with the NFL to the point that they are expanding it.

The expansion is probably to increase the surface area of accessibility and I guess to at least make it seem like it’s taking off which would further encourage more people to find out what it’s all about.

The U.S. Isn’t losing out, it’s gaining more TV viewers from the ones who would of attended but can’t due to it being on another continent.

More fans, more revenue.

These are for us Brits since we have a good fanbase here. I'm hoping to get tickets for next year.

I mean, they sell out the stadium... It’s not just ex-pats doing that. Merchandising, adverstising, and TV spots mean somebody’s watching. They’re obviously not losing money on this. Sky even flirted with the idea of dedicated channel during the season, if memory serves.

They are real scheduled games, just replaces a stateside scheduled game.

My parents went to London to go to the Jets game last month. They had a good time and made a whole vacation out of it.

The point of the games is to spread the NFL’s reach to a new audience in Europe. It seems to be working if they are scheduling more

They’re trying to build up a UK fan base . Though how much is fans of the sport vs the novelty of the game could be up to debate. I guess they’re selling out? Though they also sell out every Red Sox game , and if you go 1/5 seats are empty.
