I was in my long-term 2006 Toyota Sienna. It was on a big hill when the lights changed to yellow and I was past the point of no return. I give it some more gas, and nothing. I really put my foot in it, and still nothing. The light had just turned red, and I was still barely in the intersection. It was then that he transmission finally decided to kick down and unleash the 3MZ-FE. Holy, that was close.

Sudden unintended non acceleration?

Surprisingly enough, that would actually describe it perfectly.

It’s a minivan.
That is all the explanation you will ever need.

I feel your pain. The throttle in my parents’ Grand Caravan was the worst. I believe it functioned something like:
Put foot down
Wait for Stuttgart to give permission to accelerate
Put foot to floor
Wait for request to be redirected to Auburn Hills
Push harder on floored pedal
Wait as request is forwarded to London
Wonder if you’ll make it home in one piece
Hold on for dear life as kick down and full throttle coincide at precisely the wrong moment
