This is amazing. What’s the story behind this car? Why hasn’t it ended up as a pile of rust in a field like all the other ones?

Owned by an older lady who rarely drove it and parked it in a garage. It helps that this is a Colorado car too.

Kinja'd!!!0

Don’t worry. It wasn’t. ;) But to answer your question below, yes. I would read a review of that. An old car with a reputation and lots preconceived notions from people who haven’t even had a chance to drive one? Yeah, it’s ripe for a detailed investigation. That’s one of the things Oppo is really good for, isn’t it?

This was related to the Opel Ascona, wasn’t it?

Or was it the Rekord?

Either way, those 70s Opels are nowadys interesting designs, as periodish as you get.

My grandma bought one of those, she went out and traded in her Lincoln and came back with a blue over blue caday cavalier. It always had a weird leather smell in it. Nice sweep digital gauge I think if I remember correctly.

My grandmother bought a new Cavalier back in 85. Weird grey vinyl in a brown car. My Cimarron has an unusual “Caspian Cloth/Leather” combo. Apparently if you didn’t want full leather you could get this and some extra money in your pocket.

I have a bright idea. Cimarron is pretty much much based on Opel Ascona-C which is related to Vectra-A and Kadett-E. For both you can get quite plenty of go-fast-parts. I’m not talking about 1/4 mile times but tight circuits. Light and nimble.

So I should acquire a Cimarron get rid of any useless weight and make it really fast yet retain the stock Cimarron appearance. The car should be really light when useless stuff has gone away.

I was looking for a suitable engine for my Vectra-A (BTCC replica) and I managed to buy two ex-rallycross C20XE engines that are both able push over 220 bhp. Now I have one unemployed engine so I just need one stock looking Cimarron...

They made engines that drop right into these things up until about 10 years ago. You can get a turbo 3.4 in there and even a 3800 series supercharged V-6.

Ew why? as a die hard Cadillac fan, I won’t rest until every last one is scooped up and crushed. Worst car from the worst period of the worst Chairman’s tenure. This more than any other car is why Cadillac is still working on being taken seriously again.

This is amazing. It’s like a time machine. A true classic in my opinion.

I've always liked these cars. They're often regarded as terrible cars but they aren't and never were. Overpriced, maybe, but not bad cars. The J platform was reliable, easy to work on, sturdy (except for rust, of course), and inexpensive to own and maintain. I don't see anything wrong with that.

The fact is it can’t be that bad of a car if after 27 years this one at least still looks and drives like new.
