Early morning car porn? Early morning car porn. On a recent trip to Italy I made sure to organize a day which included a stop in Sant’Agata Bolognese to visit the Lamborghini museum and Maranello to see the Ferrari museum. Due to some navigational hiccups we arrived at our first stop, Lamborghini, after lunch instead of before. If I had more time I would have liked to see the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena or Ducati’s museum in Bologna (all situated relatively close to each other).

Oh well. Made the best of the available time anyway. After leaving Modena I opted to avoid the Autostradale (highway) and found amazing driving roads through the mountains full of epic scenery and hairpins. My Opel Adam rental car was, well, pretty gutless but nevertheless handled well on the tight Italian roads.

You probably may have seen some of these images before as I’m sure the museums have been documented well. Pictures were taken with my phone so some are sort of crappy. Here are some of my favourite pics and the full album exists here:

Lamborghini builds racing boat engines, apparently.

Urus. Notice the camera which replaces the side mirror. And yes, the car is quite ugly in person.

Unfortunately these were just models and had fake parts such as cardboard brakes.

Sweet! That Miura is probably my favorite concept

Awesome! I’m not sure if I’m more impressed with the museums or that you successfully navigated your way around rural Italy.

Unfortunately these were just models and had fake parts such as cardboard brakes.

If you say “cardboard fiber brakes” really fast, it sounds legit.

I agree and so did my girlfriend. The plaque by the car interestingly noted that “there was very high demand for this concept when it was revealed but Lamborghini has never answered its fans’ pleas with a production run”.

Rural Italy wasn’t that bad at all frankly. Cities, on the other hand, were more interesting. I had to drive into Rome to drop off the rental - now that was an experience like no other. You adjust quickly to the lawlessness of its roads but I wouldn’t recommend driving within the city for more time than necessary.

Agreed — central Rome is pure insanity for drivers and pedestrians both. It’s like orderly chaos.

But I also assume you’re European, so the culture shock is probably far less severe than from my American perspective.

Interesting - I was just about to ask if anyone actually likes the thing.

These concepts were released just in the last year. Cool to see them already up on display.

The fascinating thing about these museums is the engines on display. Ferrari could easily get away with just showing off the cars as is, but no, there’s displays of engines everywhere. Interesting indication of how they view the engine.

Nope I live just north of you in the land of snow and polar bears.

I think many people, especially Jalops who actually pay attention to what they and others are doing, can survive just fine. As well, not every single person on the road drove like a stereotypical Italian. There were relatively slow and timid drivers just like anywhere else in the world, it’s just that their bar for slow is set much higher than what we’re used to.

I guess paper and cardboard are technically carbon fibres treated with fillers anyway. It's just that these will fade immediately - quite literally since I think any modern caliper would just disintegrate these discs. Now I kind of want to see a Mythbusters episode where they make a car do 200mph and try to make it stop with my new "carbon fibre" technology. I know what the end result would be, but I still want to see it.
