The plug means business. Reminds me of Bruddah Iz Live at Budokan. He did Rainbow/Wonderful World for like 30 minutes straight with heavy distortion.

I can stand Ukulele music for exactly 10 minutes, which is sad because I want to get one because they are cheap and look easy to play. I’ll stick to being a poor guitar player.

I like it. But then, I don’t mind bagpipes either. You don’t have to confine yourself to any particular sound though. Eg, they have some that are kind of like mini banjos. I want one badly. If you get one with steel stings the sound changes again, and so on.

I got into it because I was too lazy to learn guitar properly. As soon as I found out you had to skip strings I didn’t want to play anymore. So yeah, easy. The cheap ones aren’t much good for anything other than the basics though...

The problem is the cheap Ukuleles. Even a lot of good music stores carry really shit Ukes. Spend a bit more, and suddenly all the tinny nastiness goes away. The one in the lead video would set you back a couple grand, but one of these babies is only a couple hundred (or less):

I still don’t like the sounds for long. They just sound so muted because of the short strings. Its just a case of no replacement for displacement. Also the dude playing the Uke in the first video bothers me a lot. It is morning though, and I am grumpy.

Probably less. You can get a decent uke for $200, you just need to get it properly set up and ditch the nylon strings they come with.

Mine was $150. It did not get set up. All I've done was change the strings. It sounds OK 90% of the time.

At $200, many will come with nylguts so you really don’t even need to change them. I personally run SuperNylguts on my tenor (Roughly same sound as nylguts but with slightly more sustain and way better feel) and Aquila reds on my Baritone, which are fantastic strings. They have iron powder in them to increase mass, so they’re all roughly the same diameter. They come out with a bit of roughness to them which takes some getting used to, but the sound is wonderfully balanced.

Mine was a concert, and came with nylon. If I went past the third fret it sounded shit. Fun, but shit. Aquila anythings are better by factors of 10. I’ve got nylguts on at the moment. I’ll take a look for the supers next time I need strings.

Btw, have you ever had experience with steel-stringed ukes? I've seen a couple and I'm curious, but I haven't had a chance to try one out.
