Here’s a fresh 7:53 BTG lap of the Nürburgring. In a Twingo RS. Alright, a well-developed Twingo RS with 204 hp and a rather slim 964kg to push around.

Nevertheless impressive, it mops the floor with a BMW M5, the 997 Turbo and a Ferrari F430. Due to the setup it barely reaches/exceeds 200 kph, so it has a lot to make up for in the slower stuff.

MERCI TWINGO !

I talked with some people from Renault (hey, they are french too so!) at the Tokyo Motorshow and a Twingo RS version of the new layout Twingo is probably going to show up at some point... It’s not developped yet, but in the mind of many.

FYI, the new Twingo layout is RR... :D

Renaults are always a damn quick thing to watch out for. When I had my E46 the damn Megane RSs were always giving me a hard time! NEMESIIIIIISSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Yep, but new Smart is not out yet I think... I’m pretty sure that theRS will be awesome though. Renault sucks in many departments, but their sports cars are pretty much always awesome.

Yeah ... it’s certainly a different experience with the RSes, like being pulled by a pod racer engine instead of being pushed about.

Very different, yet strangely satisfying still ... that feel when you can slingshot out of a 2nd-gear corner with the diff doing its darndest to get you up to speed.

Gotta pick one up in a year or so, they should be dirt cheap by then.

Agreed. Even the not-so-Renaultsport Megane RS (was not built in-house with Renaultsport like the Clio was before) is a hoot.

Not entirely sure about the Smart, as I have damn sure seen these around where I live (DE). Shouldn’t be factory cars with the local plates and dirt on ‘em either.

I really should try one out. I’m certainly not opposed to FWD layouts, I had an R53 Cooper S for a few years and loved (and h00ned) the hell out of it.

You’ll be even less opposed if you do.

If you go for the Megane, make sure it has the Cup components (brakes/suspension and ideally race buckets). They can be bought individually, but the “normal” Recaro seats are a bit civil by comparison.

Thou shalt not regret it! :D

Referring to the Sportster CS’s? Compared to a true race seat they’re a bit mild, still better than the majority of stock seats.

Soon I will upgrade to an RS Twingo. These things are great.

Hopefully I’m working full time again whenever that thing goes on sale, I’ll be wanting one.

Ah ... I meant the possible seat options in the Renault, actually. Should have made that clearer, I guess. :)

From what I know you can get beefed up seats in either cloth or part leather, or the full-on Recaro buckets in either leather or cloth form.

In zee Clio Renaultsport 200 Cup (yes, that’s the dealer called it, too) I had the pleasure of sitting in the buckets, but for the Megane I had to make do with the “beefy” seats Renault themselves had (had) designed. Okay, but not great.

A sound idea! That said, there’s always the previous-gen Clio RS lurking, just waiting for a power hike and some tasteful improvements.

I love the Clio too but the Twingo is more realistic money wise.

Aye ... each time I see a new-ish Clio, I resent Renault for giving it the EDC anyway. :D

Yeah I don’t know what they were thinking. Anecdotal I know but I know of two people who bought a Fiesta ST because the Clio is auto only.
