Seeing this headline on Jalopniks front page put a knot in my stomach, as I still think it is cool in some sense. But hey I live in Dubuque, Ia and have only seen two driving a round here, both P85s, one in white, and the other in blue.

I imgine that the article is in some sense true due to the fact that urban areas in larger cities must have these things like my area has F 150s. I dont really know if that is true, just picked out a truck that I know sells a shit a ton, and since I can see a corn field in my front yard, I figured Id pick a truck over a Camry that most people see in their front yards, streets, what ever.

What I am saying, is that in my mind the Telsa is still cool, because it is some what exotic to me yet. I have yet to ride in one, even though I have left notes on windsheilds, and sent emails out to the companies where the car was parked in front of. Back to my point, the reason I still see them as “cool” is because it is a symbol of where we need to go with transportation in our country, we need to prove to other counties that we can build a car that doesn’t require foreign oil right here on our soil. Right in the good old USA. I am not saying we need to kill all muscle cars, and gas guzzling trucks, I am saying we need to stand behind Tesla and support them to keep pushing for innovation in the United States.

Maybe they are ending up like Camrys, but that is not a bad thing. Not yet at least.

Anyway, just what was on my mind, and it may be missing points, but I still think the Tesla is sexy cool car.

The Tesla Model S is cool because it is not a car as much as a new piece of technology like an iPhone. It will continue to be cool and I don’t think the company has much to worry about.

There are several running around where I live, but I still think they look desirable. The thing is, because people are thinking of these as tech devices as much as cars, they are subject to the same upgrade mentality. They risk becoming old hat in the tech and car world if they don’t keep generating news to keep them in the public eye. That doesn’t make them not good cars any more than they were last year.

To me, yes they are still cool, because I live in Michigan where they are not legally allowed to sell them here, so I’ve only seen maybe 3 since they’ve been out. On the other hand, I see a crap ton of C7 Corvettes everyday, so the “cool” factor of those has worn off for me.

I still think it’s cool.

When I lived in Davenport they were a rare sight. Back here in Chicago and certain Suburbs they are pretty common now though. It used to be “Neat! A Tesla!” Now it’s just “Huh, there’s another one”.

The shine has worn off and people have started treating them as a car option not a tech toy. It's a natural correction.

Personally, no I don’t think they are cool. Their coolness is about on par with any new smart phone or gadget. It’s about to be displaced by the X and it’s gullwings, the S has normal doors. So passe. As a car they are crap. Over engineered, unreliable and bland looking.

As to your comment about the car and it’s forward looking aspirations, I don’t think it’s the answer. Trading gasoline for batteries is the same problem just further down the time line.

I enjoy seeing them because there aren't many around where I live. But, I'd imagine they'd get boring really quickly in an area where they're popular.

I just think it’s no longer new cool, and just becoming old-hat. For example, when the E90 M3 first came out, when I saw one on the road I would ‘oooo’ and ‘aaaaah’. I still like the car, but it doesn’t make me double take like it used to.

I see them all the time. I work in a wealthy area that has a dealership in the next town, and the service center is on my way home. They aren’t F-150 common, but they are by no means rare. I’m sure I don’t always notice them anymore, because I see them so often. I would say the Tesla is not uncool, but not the insanely cool thing it was a couple years ago.

Here’s the issue Tesla has hyped them up so much that they have become uncool and they are rather boring to look at. Honestly they are rather boring to drive. They are like a muscle car except with out any cool noises sounds or smells. They are great in a straight line and feel like the weigh 5000lbs when you try to go around a corner.
