There you go, after a very long, LONG day, the first press day is over and I’m heading home... Here is the first part of the cars that I think, were the most interesting of the whole show...
You’re used to it with my artciles by now, but it’s going to be quite a massive photodump, that I’ll do in 2 to 3 parts.
First Nissan:
Like they do so often, here is another Gran Turismo concept the Nissan Concept 2020. What a massive beast! It drove like crap on Gran Turismo though...
New Nismo GTR... ame as the other ones, nothing much to say there
Nismo Fairlady Z (370Z)... I wonder when they’ll retire this one.
Nissan IDS... Really liked the design for some reason.
Nissan GripZ... Very nice design again, would have prefered something more offroad oriented instead of a crossover built to deal with the “urban jungle” but still cool looking...
Then comes Porsche...
The GT3RS is awesome, but it woud have been nice if Porsche let us access it freely instead of asking for appointments... Due to this restriction, the car was ignored quite a bit. Sure people took pictures but quickly went onto something else...
and more Porsches...
Then VW... (lol)
Appart from a couple of chinese people actually looking at the cars, nobody really cared about what they had to offer. Everyone wanted to talk about the Diesel-gate. That and also, they didn’t have much to offer. A R32 Golf, but other than that, nothing very interesting. They are problably trying to save money too: their press kit was a business card with a link to the press website.
Then Peugeot with the 308 GTI. It comes with a manual, so it looks good to me. Pretty fast also, 270hp, 0 to 100kph in under 6s and the weirdest ad ever with a guy acting like he is downhill skateboarding on the roof of the car.
Audi also with the R10 Plus... Nice car but nothing new
They had the Audi Prologue Allroad... The only car that made me react really positively. It looks VERY nice...
The rest was pretty normal and nothing was very new with Audi either...
Then came Fiat/Alfa/Jeep...etc with the palm for crappiest booth of the whole show. Congratulation guys! The whole thing was terribly lit, everything felt empty and it felt like they invested 200$ for the whole damn thing! Nothing a couple of trips to Office Depot and a couple of week ends of work in someones basement couldn’t have done... anyway, cars were still nice
Then the coolest concept of the whole event! It transforms itself (in theory I guess) into a robot!! Please Japan, do it and sell something like this one day. I want my own mech at home!
Then came the only Minivan I wouldn’t mind owning, as long as I don’t drive it of course... The absolute dream for any Bang Bros. actors. THAT would make a classy production...
Then came the SlingShot SL by Polaris... This thing actually looks like it could be a hell of a lot of fun. 760kg, 173hp, a manual gearbox and a pretty good looking style. Love it!
Then Mercedes... Wagons, racecars and weird concepts. Sure!
Talking about Bang Bros...
Oh yes... Mercedes... Maybach... H.O.L.Y C.R.A.P! I seat in the back of the S600/Maybach, playing with all the buttons for 10 minutes. I can’t wait to buy it for 10% of it’s price tag in 10 years! It’s going to be awesome!
And the AMG GT3... Gahhhhhh, I’d kill fora few laps in that thing!
And now Toyota with all the usual cars and some cool new stuff like the SFR. 130hp for something that weights nothing. An attempt to bring back sports cars that were fun to drive slow. Hope it works out well for it!
And some crossover concept... meh.
THAT was cool though. “Kool” actually: the Kikai. Or what happens if a Ford Model T eats a Baja Bug, all while being in the world of Bioshock. Awesome!
Another cool concept. The wheels struckled me. I kind of liked it. Maybe an homage to Mazda and the return of the Rotary :)
That’s it for today but just because it’s hard to pass by and forget, here it is again, my pics this time: behold to the RX-Vision!
Running out of battery here, so the rest tomorrow!

Someone with photoshop skills, could you please turn the windshield frame black in this picture and the next tone? I think it might look even better that way.

Great photos!

This looked better as a rendering - it somehow doesn’t work in real life.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 09:52 |

I actually really like that van. If I were being chauffeured around, I’d want it to be in that.
Also, I still have high hopes for the SFR. We’ll see...

Ducktail on a crossover. I can get used to this.

To everyone who reads this: I apologize for the few mistakes I did while writing this article, but due to the sheer amount of pictures, I can’t seem to be able to edit it to correct everything :(
Kinja screws up the whole thing when I click on edit...
It’s a been a terribly long day for me (11pm here) and I’m just very tired... Sorry.

Put some fins on it and its the new Batmobile.

Looks like a Toyota.

Me so hungy. Me want to eat you. GAAAWWWWHHHHH!

Crash tests be damned, these vans are awesome. My kids will totally dig the champagne chiller. On that thought, when is that stupid trope going to die?

Wow, a LOT really ugly cars and a few good ones. Though, not surprised for the Tokyo show.
Nice pictures though!

I could look at this all day.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:00 |

Keep pushing the ugly Nissan.... Jesus that VGT Concept is a mess. We’ve officially reached peak gun-slit window. How can something so “dynamically” styled look so goddamn clunky.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:00 |
|
Awesome photos! The Datsun IDs looks like it would be a really cool CRX fighter. I’m sort of sad they nixed the IDx....not that I would ever get one, but it would be nice for them to produce!

This just makes me want to release the Professor X inside.

I’m trying to decide whether it was the red or the black paint that ran out at just this point.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:12 |
|
I continue to hate the Nissan 2020 and think that it’s the worst designed car ever. literally ever. I’d rather drive a Youabian Puma. the fact that Nissan touts this ugly beast around at every auto show shows me severe incompetence.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:12 |

that mini van would be cool even with a normal interior. what is it?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:17 |

Pp-pp-ppt-pt-ppt...Son?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:17 |

Hiace? I don’t remember... not very good with vans lol
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:19 |

Does it make me a bad Jalop that I like how Toyota’s Miata looks more than the Mazda version?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:25 |

GERWALK mode!
The wants, all the wants, they burn so much inside me...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:25 |
|
I was struckled by the mistakes, but I appreciate the apology.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:29 |
|
Huh, so the RX-Vision is actually real, in the flesh. I thought the article we saw the other day was just a drawing. Still looks too long, especially in the hood. It’s a rotary engine, not a V12!
The Peugot 308 looks good from the front but a little bland in the rear. I wonder if that has to do with colour change. (Though, I feel like I’d be more partial to black than red).
The interior of the Polaris Slingshot is ridiculous. So much gaudy plastic. And as someone who likes the bright orange, that’s way too much. It had sure better be fun to drive to distract from that interior!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:32 |
|
That AMG GT3 has got to be one of the angriest looking racecars I’ve ever seen...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:34 |
|
I’m sorry, guys. I want to. I just...can’t. I can’t.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:36 |
|
Great read regardless, keep up the good work!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:39 |
|
Looks nice until the air suspension gives out.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:39 |
|
If this is a peek at the next Leaf, i’m all over it. I love Nissan’s styling language lately. This is really attractive and different, but not too weird.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:40 |
|
If this is a hint at where the Juke is going next, i’m going to have to say YES PLEASE!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:42 |
|
This whole area reminds me of either a) arcade racing games or b) my joystick from my old computer that ran Windows 3.1.
Either way, was there a shortage on compasses? Straightedge ALL the things!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:44 |
|
Saw a Polaris Slingshot at a TSC store in rural Ontario of all places. Pretty awesome car.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:46 |
|
Is that Audi Allroad a concept? I LOVE it!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:46 |
|
This looks like an afterthought that would be awful on bumpy roads. Maybe the angle is just not showing extra bracing. Or maybe the suspension is just that good.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:49 |
|
Don’t worry. Awesome pics and info!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:50 |
|
Should be chrome to totally nail the reference. Also needs a smaller grill. That bigmouth look kinda kills the car for me.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:52 |
|
Kind of looks like a squished Volvo C30.
Not that it is a bad thing.

“Put machine guns here”
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:06 |

The rear end on the IDS and GripZ kinda has that newer BMW look
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:07 |
|
That Nissan Concept 2020 is one ugly fucking car; one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The only positive is that, unlike the Toyota Furai, it’s a concept.
The RX-Concept, on the other hand, looks fabulous. Well, except for a front half that’s way, way too long.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:11 |
|
It looks so adorably angry, I love it.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:12 |
|
Yeah, the suspension is that good.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:13 |
|
Yeah, I keep pointing out that it looks like the wrong greenhouse.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:13 |
|
Too bad its belt-drive - this thing should be shaft drive if its expected to handle real power. its terrible in the wet and has an eco-tec (chev) 4 banger. it should have something a little more technically advanced IMO under the hood.
it looks good but that’s about it....
source - neighbour bought the first one in my province.

Not so much flame surfacing as conflagration surfacing.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:25 |

It was a Golf R, not R32! Don't tease me with a VR6 powered MK7!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:26 |
|
No need to apologize! Thanks!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:30 |
|
If you’re going to do busy, this is not a bad way to do it.
It also shows, though, that BMW still leads stylistically. That design language is pretty close to that of BMW i, even if the proportions are not.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:33 |
|
Makes sense. I just don't see it handling the Wisconsin roads I'm used to, especially during construction. But then again, it's not really the geographic location that this car is designed for in the first place...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:34 |
|
Don’t care, because cool pics!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:49 |

Toyota PR people: Let Jason Drive this thing .
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:52 |
|
Is the RX9 a big car? A small car? The hood is so long and wheels so big, I can’t wrap my mind around it!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:56 |
|
struckled?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:58 |

![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:59 |

It looks as though a DB9 had an offspring with the F-type. I like it.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:59 |
|
“Nismo Fairlady Z (370Z)... I wonder when they’ll retire this one.”
Seriously. What is Nissan doing? Even the GTR is in it’s 8th year and moving minimal units (~1-2 per day worldwide). The 370z has never sold well and is based on a car that entered production 15 (!) years ago. And everyone loved the IDx so they just did nothing.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:06 |
|
windows? where were going we don’t need windows
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:07 |

I disagree with the rest. You should apologize for your narration. Just show us the photos, maybe with the names of the cars.
Sincerely,
The World.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:17 |
|
Do you think the Nissan designers were sad when they realized Ford beat them to the punch with the GT?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:35 |
|
So the mirrors are ludicrously small on the RX-V, I imagine that would get changed out. The same with the wheel wheels/tires, so smaller wheels and tires on a production model. Were there any door handles? I suspect this is more concept than is the norm for Mazda, and if this goes into production it would be as the hard top coupe version of the Miata, 2018 model, if they can’t get the rotary to work out.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:40 |
|
I’m assuming mazda’s new rotary is 8 feet long then?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:42 |
|
Wow look at the shit coming out of Nissan and Toyota/Lexus. They are just in an arms race of ugly.
Great write up though. Better than the actual jalopnik coverage of car shows.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:52 |
|
Cool? You think a compact hatch with a steriod problem looks cool? This looks like an 8 year old’s brain vomit to me...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:55 |
|
Toyota Crossover Concept’s ass looks so much like the Nissan Gripz ass. Did they build it in collaboration ?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:55 |
|
Nissan GripZ designers should take notes on this car as “how we should have done it...”
![]() 10/28/2015 at 12:58 |
|
Is it a car or is it a bike? DOT calls it a car because it drives like a car. Good luck with crash testing...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:01 |
|
Another x-over? Just Corolla in GripZ clothing... go see the Audi...
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:02 |
|
Zoom Zoom indeed!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:07 |
|
It doesn’t have a drive train, so it’s it definitely not production ready.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:24 |
|
Mitsubishi? What about the eX concept?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:33 |
|
Its interesting and awesome and so steampunk.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:43 |
|
That peugot’s bicolor paint job looks like a red car that got black rattle-can treatment :|
![]() 10/28/2015 at 13:59 |

I desperately want that sfr. I feel like i might be in the minority here, but its a good looking machine!
Also, did we ever find out what happened to the nissan idx concepts? The return of the 510 had me all hot and bothered for awhile
![]() 10/28/2015 at 14:15 |
|
@The nissan Grand Turismo concept. First thing that popped into my head was: NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa BATMAN!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 14:27 |
|
Me likey.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 15:02 |
|
The little SFR is growing on me. I think I'd still take a Miata over it though.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 15:25 |
|
SORRY DOESN’T CUT IT YOU MORON!
Just kidding, you’re cool.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 15:55 |
|
Still weird.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 15:56 |
|
That Polaris just needs one more wheel and it could be really cool!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 16:07 |
|
mondo super thank you.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 16:30 |
|
So the RX Vision thing is pretty sweet.. probably could slide that under a semi trailer no problem..
But seriously Mazda, how about giving us news or hope for something that could be made very easily AND people want: A new MazdaSpeed6. The new 6 just screams for a Mazdaspeed version.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 16:36 |
|
Looks amazing but the Allroad should be an actual wagon! This looks like it wants to be a notchback
![]() 10/28/2015 at 16:46 |
|
Dude, your photos are so good that I wouldn’t have noticed if you wrote in Chinese.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 17:11 |
|
This was really cool, thanks for taking the time to do all of this!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 17:58 |
|
It’s not trying to copy that, it’s trying to copy this:
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:22 |
|
That would make sense since the 800 is an ancestor, but I see more similarities with the Bugeye’s face and virtually none with the 800’s. The indicator, lights and badge placement are closer to the Austin Healey and not like the 800 at all. To put it another way, I feel there are some really obvious design cues to the 800 that they clearly didn’t pick up with this concept, and you’d expect them to if that was the reference.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:56 |
|
Now that’s a real shame when folks be throwin’ away a perfectly good white wagon.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:59 |

Stone cold awesome ludicrous Barris customs flashback
![]() 10/28/2015 at 19:07 |

Besides the grill, I’m not seeing what your seeing. I’m seeing at the very least a faux targa roof, like the 800.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 21:03 |

The Evoque? Meh, skipped it I guess, it didn’t strike me very much. This article is more of a “What did I like during the TMS” rather than a professionnal coverage of the show :)
![]() 10/28/2015 at 21:06 |
|
Yeah but it’s a concept car... Proportions are always exagerated. It will look much more normal when/if it comes out.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 21:07 |
|
Yeah tiny ridiculous mirror are common on concept cars to not distract the eye from the line of the car itself. It never comes out like this :)
![]() 10/28/2015 at 21:15 |
|
Yeah, that’s what happens when you’re REALLY tired, can’t edit the article, english isn’t your mother tongue and realize you should have just wrote “strike”. I was way too tired to write anything yesterday lol. As soon as i clicked on “publish” and double checked everything, I noticed it but couldn’t correct it. There are a bunch of other mistakes too :(
